Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: The effect of cholecalciferol supplementation improves vascular function in adult patients with chronic kidney disease.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-25) Ríos Barbarán, Martín; Dávila Córdova, Jennifer EstefaniaChronic kidney disease (CKD) is a public health problem of global relevance; since it is related to the increased risk of cardiovascular disease as kidney failure progresses, vitamin D deficiency is associated with mortality in patients with CKD, which could mitigate the risk of cardiovascular disease in CKD. The present secondary research entitled: Critical review: The effect of cholecalciferol supplementation improves vascular function in adult patients with chronic kidney disease", aimed to know the effect of cholecalciferol supplementation in improving vascular function in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. The clinical question was: Does the effect of cholecalciferol supplementation improve vascular function in adult patients with Chronic Kidney Disease? The Nutrition Based on Evidence (NuBE) methodology was used. The information search was performed in PUBMED and COCHRANE, finding 37 articles, of which 11 were selected and evaluated by the critical reading tool CASPE. Finally, the Randomized Clinical Trial entitled "A randomized trial of vitamin D supplementation on vascular function in CKD" was selected, which has an AI level of evidence and Strong Grade of Recommendation, according to the researcher's expertise. The critical commentary allowed to conclude that the use of cholecalciferol supplements improves vascular function through endothelial function indicators and circulating biomarkers, with cholecalciferol supplementation being considered as a nutritional treatment to positively improve in adult patients with chronic kidney disease; at the same time, it is proposed to continue carrying out clinical studies in which the number of participants is greater and the intervention period similar to the selected clinical trial.
