    Daytime sleepiness and peak oxygen uptake in high school students of a school in Lima-Peru 2023

    Daytime sleepiness (DS) is a sleep disorder present during the day with a recurrent frequency (no less than 10 times a day) during daily activities and can be assessed with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. On the other hand, maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) refers to the maximum amount of oxygen consumed per minute during dynamic exercise, expressed in ml/kg/min. The Shuttle Test is a progressive load test used to measure VO2max. Various studies show that adolescents tend to adopt sedentary habits, neglecting physical activity (PA), which increases the risk of a decline in aerobic capacity. This, combined with poor sleep habits, could affect both VO2max and daytime sleepiness.
