Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between specific prostate antigen and the beta subunit of the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone in men with diagnosis of prostate cancer in a public institution in Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-04-28) Calderón Borda, Deisy Estefany; Borja Velezmoro, Gustavo AdolfoProstate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in Peru, and in most cases, early detection tests are feasible. However, in some areas, there is a lack of necessary resources to measure prostate-specific antigen levels in the population. The objective is to establish the relationship between prostate-specific antigen concentrations and the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin in men aged 50 to 60 with a prostate cancer diagnosis in a public institution in Lima, 2023. Methodology: A non-experimental design was used with a quantitative approach and simple random sampling of 212 patient records. The technique of document analysis was employed, along with a data collection form and statistical analysis using IBM-SPSS. Results: 17.9% showed PSA levels in the high-risk category for prostate cancer, and 6.6% had intermediate-risk values. Additionally, 24.5% had pathological β-hCG levels. In the correlation analysis, a Spearman's Rho coefficient of 0.638 (p = 0.000) was obtained. Conclusion: A strong direct relationship exists between prostate-specific antigen levels and the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin in men aged 50 to 60 with prostate cancer.
