Factors associated with the choice of contraceptive methods in women of fertile age, Endes 2021

Abstract

The need to know the causes and circumstances that lead a woman to decide on the importance of family planning motivates curiosity and encourages research. Objective: Determine the relationship between the factors associated with the choice of contraceptive methods in Women of childbearing age, ENDES 2021. Materials and methods: Non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational study. Considering the sample of 16,018 women, applying exclusion and inclusion criteria. The sampling that will be applied is non-probabilistic for convenience to the women who were interviewed in the ENDES 2021. Results: 62.1% of the interviewees were between the ages of 30 and 49 years, with a Secondary educational level represented by 46.5%. Regarding sociodemographic factors such as age, level of education, wealth quintile, natural region, and place of residence (p =0.000). In a similar situation, the level of education and the couple's employment situation (p =0.000) are factors that influenced the decision-making in choosing a contraceptive method. On the other hand, the information provided by health personnel (p=0.135) and the media (p=0.217) are factors that did not influence the decision-making in choosing a contraceptive method. Conclusion: It concluded that sociodemographic factors and those based on the environment of the family planning user according to ENDES 2021 are important for the choice of a contraceptive method. On the contrary, the factors related to access to information did not influence the decision of women of childbearing age.

La necesidad por saber las causales y circunstancias que llevan a una mujer a decidir sobre la importancia de la planificación familiar motiva la curiosidad y fomenta la investigación. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre los factores asociados a la elección de métodos anticonceptivos en Mujeres en edad fértil, ENDES 2021. Materiales y métodos: Estudio no experimental, transversal y correlacional. Considerando la muestra de 16018 mujeres, aplicando criterios de exclusión e inclusión. El muestreo que se aplicará es no probabilístico por conveniencia a las mujeres que fueron entrevistadas en la ENDES 2021. Resultados: El 62.1 % de las entrevistadas se encontraron entre las edades de 30 a 49 años, con un nivel educativo Secundario representado por el 46.5 %. En cuanto a los factores sociodemográficos como son la edad, grado de instrucción, quintil de riqueza, la región natural y el lugar de residencia (p =0,000). En situación similar el grado de instrucción y la situación laboral de la pareja (p =0,000) son factores que influyeron en la toma de decisión en la elección de un método anticonceptivo. En cambio, la información que ha brindado el personal de la salud (p=0.135) y los medios de comunicación (p=0,217) son factores que no influyeron en la toma de decisión en la elección de un método anticonceptivo. Conclusión: Concluyó en que los factores sociodemográficos y los basados al entorno de la usuaria de planificación familiar según ENDES 2021 son importantes para la elección de un método anticonceptivo. Por lo contrario, los factores al acceso de la información no influyeron en la decisión de la mujer en edad fértil.
