Publicación Acceso abierto Factores relacionados con la aparición de caries de la infancia temprana en menores de 5 años atendidos en el Centro de Salud Ocopilla, Huancayo-2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-12-18) Arellano Camayo, Maryori Mishell; Loayza Alarico, Manuel JesúsObjective: To identify the factors related to the occurrence of early childhood caries in children under 5 years of age treated at the Ocopilla Health Center, Huancayo-2024. Materials and Methods: For data collection, a structured form was used to record information on sociodemographic, hygiene, and dietary factors, as well as to calculate the presence of early childhood caries using the CEO-D index. Cramér’s V statistic was applied, considering a significance level (α = 0.05). Results: A significant relationship was found between sociodemographic factors and caries (V = 0.63), highlighting the educational level of the father or guardian (V = 0.87; 34.8%). A significant association was also observed with hygiene factors (V = 0.76), mainly related to toothbrushing frequency (V = 0.77; 20.7%) and dental consultation (V = 0.76; 21.7%). Regarding dietary factors, a significant relationship was found (V = 0.68), especially with the age at the end of breastfeeding (V = 0.80; 26.1%) and sugar consumption (V = 0.61; 31.5%). Conclusion: Based on hypothesis testing, the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted, demonstrating a high significant relationship between sociodemographic factors (excluding the age and gender of the accompanying person), hygiene, and dietary factors and the occurrence of early childhood caries in children under 5 years of age at the Ocopilla Health Center, Huancayo-2024, thus fulfilling the study objectives.
