The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the world due to its rapid spread and excessive mortality rates, with higher prevalence among patients with chronic diseases. The fear of contracting SARS-CoV-2 has led many people to self-medicate, thereby increasing the likelihood of certain complications that may result in higher mortality. Objective: To determine the relationship between the COVID-19 mortality rate and chronic diseases in self-medicating patients at the Hospital II Clínica Geriátrica San Isidro Labrador from February to May 2021. Methodology: Hypothetical-deductive method, non-experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population included medical records of 550 self-medicating COVID-19 patients, from which a sample of 227 was obtained. A data collection form was used to gather information, and SPSS version 25 was employed for statistical analysis, applying Pearson's chi-square test for association with a significance value of p<0.05. Results: Among the most prevalent associated factors were patients over 60 years of age, male sex, and the most frequently self-medicated drugs being paracetamol (34.4%) and dexamethasone (26%). A mortality rate of 68.3% was recorded, with hypertension being the most prevalent chronic disease. Conclusion: It was concluded that there is a positive correlation (p=0.003) between the mortality rate of COVID-19 patients and chronic diseases.
