Self-medication is a global public health problem that has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents, concerned not only by difficulties in the healthcare system but also by the risks of the disease, opted to self-medicate with antibiotics (azithromycin) to alleviate their discomfort or symptoms. Objective: To determine the self-medication with azithromycin and its relationship with COVID-19 among residents of the Ninth Sector, Group 3 Human Settlement (AA.HH.) in the Villa el Salvador district, Metropolitan Lima, during the first semester of 2021. Method: A hypothetical-deductive method with a quantitative approach, applied type, and non-experimental design was used. A questionnaire-type instrument was applied to 200 residents. The statistical analysis used SPSS and the Chi-squared test of independence. Results: 40.5% self-medicated with azithromycin, of which 22% were female and 18.5% were male. 29.5% of self-medication with azithromycin was related to COVID-19 symptoms (p-value = 0.00). The reasons for self-medication were recommendation (31.5%), lack of time (10%), and advertising (1%), while 28.5% did not self-medicate for any COVID-19-related reason (p-value = 0.04). Conclusion: It was demonstrated that a relationship exists between self-medication with azithromycin and COVID-19.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-12-07) Munares Cusi, Milton Ever; Cayao Regalado, Maribel Soledad; Alvarado Chávez, Britt
In Peru, medicinal plants are of great importance for research into new formulations due to being a natural alternative. Objective: To confirm the wound-healing effect of the gel formulated from the hydroalcoholic extract of Ligaria cuneifolia R&P., 'suelda con suelda,' in rats. Methodology: The plant species was collected in the San Pedro community, Puywas district, Huancayo department. A hydroalcoholic extraction of the Ligaria cuneifolia R&P leaves was performed. A solubility test and phytochemical screening were conducted. The wound-healing activity was executed using three gel concentrations (0.5%,5%, and 10%) prepared from the hydroalcoholic extract. This was compared with standard groups based on Contractubex® Gel (onion plant cells) and a base gel control group, culminating in the anatomopathological technique (histological sections of the healing skin tissue). Results: The existence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, and phenolic compounds was evidenced. Regarding the wound-healing effect, the gel based on the 10% hydroalcoholic extract of Ligaria cuneifolia R&P presented the highest healing efficacy (histologically, the presence of reparative changes, marked hyperplasia of basal cells, and superficial and deep dermis with moderate fibrosis and an increase in fibroblasts and cicatricial epithelium was observed). The histological findings showed scar reparative changes in the epidermis, with mild fibrosis in the dermis, indicating a good healing response. The healing degree was rated as Good, validating 80.6% efficacy compared to Contractubex®, which reached 70.6% efficacy. Conclusion: It was confirmed that the hydroalcoholic extract of Ligaria cuneifolia R&P 'suelda con suelda' presents wound-healing activity in rats.

Objective: To determine the accelerated stability comparisons of paracetamol syrup and explore formulations from pharmaceutical laboratories in Metropolitan Lima in 2024. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used, employing deductive reasoning, an experimental design, and a cross-sectional study. The population consisted of paracetamol syrups from national and generic laboratories, with one bottle sampled per formula. The technique used was observation, supported by a data collection form. Results: The organoleptic evaluation (color, odor, taste, and absence of particles) met the parameters established in the Peruvian Technical Standard for oral medications. The physicochemical properties remained within the specified ranges: delivery volume, moisture loss (no more than 5%), pH (3.8–6.1), and density (1.000 g/mL–1.120 g/mL). Microbiological controls revealed an absence of aerobic microorganisms and fungi in all samples. Compliance with Good Storage Practices (GSP) was verified in pharmacies and drugstores, which contributed to preserving the stability, efficacy, and safety of the product throughout its shelf life. Conclusions: After determining the accelerated stability comparisons of paracetamol syrup and exploring the formulations of pharmaceutical laboratories in Metropolitan Lima in 2024, it can be stated that they comply with Peruvian technical and regulatory standards, guaranteeing a safe, effective, and high-quality product. The importance of maintaining strict quality controls and appropriate storage conditions to ensure the stability and optimal therapeutic performance of medications is emphasized.

Nivel de conocimiento de plantas con potencial biocida en estudiantes de Farmacia y Bioquímica del décimo ciclo de la Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, Lima 2021–2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-26) Usca Challco, Doris; Zegarra Fernandez, Susana Socorro; Alvarado Chávez, Britt
Currently, contamination caused by pesticides used in agriculture is an unsustainable problem, one of the causes being the improper use of synthetic insecticides made from chemical products, which is causing irreparable damage both to humans and the environment. Therefore, it is necessary for knowledgeable professionals, such as students of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, to provide sustainable alternatives, such as bioinsecticide products made from plant extracts, aimed at combating insects, pests, and other microorganisms that affect crops. The objective of this research was “to determine the knowledge of plants with biocidal potential among tenth-cycle students of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, Lima 2021–2022.” Method: The study was analytical, with a quantitative approach, basic type, non-experimental descriptive design, and simple random probabilistic sampling. A questionnaire validated by three experts was applied to 250 tenth-cycle students of Pharmacy and Biochemistry. Data were analyzed using Excel and SPSS version 25. Results: The findings showed that 71.6% of students had a high level of knowledge about plants with biocidal potential, 13.6% medium, and 14.8% low. Conclusion: It was established that tenth-cycle students of Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener have a high level of knowledge regarding plants with biocidal potential.

The general objective of this thesis was to determine the level of knowledge regarding the technical specifications of medical devices for public tenders in five drugstores in Lima in 2022. The research method was deductive and descriptive-prospective. The approach was quantitative with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all professionals responsible for the public tender process in the five drugstores. The sample consisted of 80 people, including all professionals (chemists and technicians) responsible for the process, as well as the public tender files from the five drugstores. The data collection technique was a direct survey, which was applied to the professionals in 2022. The main results showed that 96.3% had a low level of knowledge regarding the technical specifications of medical devices for public tenders, while 3.7% had a medium level. It was concluded that the level of knowledge on the technical specifications of medical devices for public tenders is low in the five drugstores in Lima, 2022.
