Ítem Acceso abierto Nursing Knowledge and Practices in the Prevention of Phlebitis in Patients Under 5 Years of Age with PICC Catheter of the Hospitalization Service of a Private Clinic in Lima, 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-08) Balado Castellin, Karen del Valle; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MariaMost hospitalized patients use a Peripheral Venous Catheter (PVC) at some point. However, this procedure can lead to complications, the most common being phlebitis, which is the most frequent complication of intravenous therapy in hospitalized patients. Phlebitis is characterized by discomfort, edema, localized elevation of body temperature, erythema or redness of the affected venous region or channel, and a palpable venous cord. In rare cases, there may also be purulent discharge and/or fever, and in more severe cases, venous thrombosis may occur.
