Publicación Acceso abierto Relación del estilo de vida con el colesterol y triglicéridos en personas de tercera edad que acuden a la "Casa Hogar San Martin de Porres". Junio – 2016(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-02-02) Castillo Agüero, Luz Elsa; Chávez Aguilar, Flor Melissa; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelObjective: The present research aimed to relate lifestyle habits with cholesterol and triglyceride levels in elderly individuals attending the “Casa Hogar San Martín de Porres” through a questionnaire. Additionally, the study sought to characterize the population by sex and age, determine the risk factors with the highest prevalence associated with nutritional status, and validate the information provided by the elderly respondents. Methodology: A prospective, correlational, and descriptive study was conducted on serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels in elderly patients. A total of 77 samples were obtained, and biochemical determinations were carried out at the Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry of the Universidad Norbert Wiener. Results: The results revealed that 33% of participants presented high triglyceride levels, with a higher prevalence among females. Likewise, 34% of males presented high cholesterol levels. Regarding lifestyle and diet, 33% of females had higher fat consumption, while 34% of males had high protein intake correlating with elevated cholesterol levels. Concerning physical activity, 53% of females engaged in less activity compared to males, which also influenced the elevated triglyceride and cholesterol levels. Conclusions: A statistically significant relationship was found between serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels and the lifestyle habits of the elderly participants.
