Ítem Acceso abierto Antibacterial effect of Stevia rebaudiana, Camellia sinensis and Origanum vulgare against Streptococcus mutans in vitro study, Lima - 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-04) Mamani Turpo, Luz Delia; Chilón Minaya, Lesly JohannaThe aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial effect of three plant-based compounds: Stevia rebaudiana, Camellia sinensis, and Origanum vulgare, against Streptococcus mutans. An in vitro experimental design methodology was used, with an analytical method and applied type. Treatments were applied to Petri dishes with Streptococcus mutans strains, using 10 plates for each treatment and two control groups. The results revealed that, of the three plant-based compounds tested, two showed antibacterial effects against Streptococcus mutans. For Origanum vulgare, inhibition halos of 32.09 mm were obtained at 24 hours and 31.80 mm at 48 hours. For Camellia sinensis, inhibition halos were 25.06 mm at 24 hours and 24.74 mm at 48 hours. However, Stevia rebaudiana did not show an antibacterial effect as its inhibition halos were 0 mm. Therefore, it was concluded that the antibacterial compounds that did show antibacterial effects did not show significant differences compared to the positive control used, 0.12% Chlorhexidine Gluconate (p>0.05).Ítem Acceso abierto Cognitive competencies and attitudes toward medical emergency care during dental practice in undergraduate students at the Norbert Wiener Private University in Lima, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-06) Loli Robles, Michelle Alejandra; Chilón Minaya, Lesly JohannaThe objective of this research was to determine whether there is a relationship between cognitive competencies and attitudes toward medical emergency care during dental practice among undergraduate students at Norbert Wiener Private University in Lima, 2022. To achieve the proposed objective, a basic study with a descriptive, correlational level, and a cross-sectional, non-experimental design was developed. A questionnaire was applied to 120 students from the Comprehensive Adult Clinic II course during the 2022 I and II periods in the Dentistry program at the mentioned university. According to the results, 49.2% of the students showed a regular level of cognitive competencies regarding their attitudes toward medical emergency care during dental practice. Additionally, 22.5% of the students reflected a good level of cognitive competencies, and only a small percentage, specifically 5%, showed a poor attitude toward medical emergency care during dental practice. A moderately positive correlation was determined between the two variables using the Spearman's Rho statistical test (rho = 0.618, p = 0.000). Conclusion: There is a relationship between cognitive competencies and attitudes toward medical emergency care during dental practice among undergraduate students at Norbert Wiener Private University in Lima, 2022.Ítem Acceso abierto Consumption of cannabis sativa as a risk factor in periodontal health among dental students at a university in Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-07-11) Jerí Diaz, Mario Alfonso; Chilón Minaya, Lesly JohannaThe purpose of this study was to examine the association between Cannabis Sativa consumption and periodontal health among dental students from a university in Lima, 2023. A quantitative approach was chosen, and a hypothetical-deductive method was applied, using an observational correlational, non-experimental, and cross-sectional research design. The study sample consisted of 324 dental students. The findings revealed that the vast majority of students (71.9%) do not consume Cannabis Sativa and generally have good periodontal health. In contrast, a small group (0.9%) that consumes cannabis also maintains optimal periodontal health, but a slightly higher percentage (3.1%) has a periodontal health rated as regular. The most relevant finding was the discovery of a statistically significant relationship (p < 0.05) between Cannabis Sativa consumption and periodontal health. The reasons behind Cannabis Sativa consumption were explored. Among users, 61.5% claimed to use it for medical reasons and generally presented regular periodontal health. On the other hand, 15.4% consumed it recreationally, and their periodontal health varied between good and regular. Additionally, a significant relationship was found between the frequency of consumption and periodontal health (p < 0.05). However, no significant relationships were identified between the form and duration of Cannabis Sativa consumption and periodontal health (p > 0.05).
