The correct use of contraceptive methods implies an appropriate knowledge about their characteristics, purpose, mode of use and side effects, especially after completing the orientation at the health center, therefore the objective was to determine the knowledge and use of hormonal contraceptives in patients of the family planning program of the San Sebastian-Lima 2022 health center in a sample of 128 patients through a descriptive and cross-sectional study. It is reported that the socioeconomic factors that present a young population of 48.8% between 18 and 25 years of age with medium education with 56.8% at the secondary level and from medium to low socioeconomic level due to their status as employees with 45.6% and 19.2% housewives. Regarding knowledge, it can be concluded that 56.0% have a medium level of knowledge about hormonal contraceptives, followed by 26.4% with low knowledge and the remaining 17.6% with a high level of knowledge. Hormonal contraceptive practice shows that 63.2% of the people use it to prevent pregnancy, with 51.2% of cases using it for 2 to 5 years, with injections being the most used contraceptive with a relative frequency of 51.2%. The experience with the use of hormonal contraceptives shows that 49.6% use the contraceptive ampoule and weight gain is the most mentioned side effect with 52.8%. It is concluded that the knowledge is average in its various nuances consulted and the majority use it to prevent pregnancy; while attention should be paid to the knowledge of its side effects which shows a tendency to stop using them for the same reason.
