Ítem Acceso abierto Self-esteem and life satisfaction in older adults of the Geriatric Residence of a Religious Congregation, Lima, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-08) Guerra Jimeno, María Liliana; Reyes Callahuacho, David TitoThe purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between self-esteem and life satisfaction in older adults from the Geriatric Residence of a Religious Congregation in Lima. The scientific method was used, with a hypothetical-deductive model, quantitative approach, and basic research type. The level was descriptive correlational, with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 80 older adults, both men and women. The instruments used were the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (1965) and the Life Satisfaction Scale by Diener, Emmons, Larsen, and Griffin (1985), validated in Peru by Ventura-León, Caycho-Rodríguez, and Barboza-Palomino (2018) and Martínez (2004), respectively. The Pearson correlation result (r = 0.402; p = 0.000 < 0.01) confirmed a positive, moderate, and very significant correlation between self-esteem and life satisfaction. This indicates that the higher the self-esteem, the greater the life satisfaction. It concludes that older adults in a geriatric residence who receive close support and spiritual guidance tend to have better self-esteem and life satisfaction.
