Benefits of oropharyngeal colostrum administration in very low birth weight preterm infants
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-20) Benavides Chávez, Maria Alejandra; León Cáceres, Johanna del Carmen
Oropharyngeal administration of colostrum consists of promoting the immunocompetence of cytokines contained in colostrum in the oropharynx, in the lymphoid system with which it has a relationship with the intestine, in order to provide a barrier against bacterial colonization. The present secondary research titled as a critical review: Oropharyngeal Colostrum Positively Modulates the Inflammatory Response in Preterm Neonates aimed to evaluate the effects of oropharyngeal breast milk administration on inflammatory signaling in extremely premature babies. The clinical question was: Is there a positive relationship between the administration of oropharyngeal colostrum in very low weight premature newborns on inflammatory markers? The CASPE critical reading tool methodology was used for the Clinical Trial, which has a level of evidence I and a strong Grade of Recommendation, according to the researcher's expertise. The critical comment allowed us to conclude that administering colostrum during the first days would have a therapeutic effect at an anti-inflammatory level, so starting at an opportune time could contribute positively to the tolerance of oral feeding.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-09-03) Vigo Tafur, Livia; León Cáceres, Johanna del Carmen
Determine the factors associated with the Body Mass Index in health workers at a hospital in Lima: 93 workers from the health facility were studied, including women and men between 19 and 60 years of age. The assessment of the nutritional status of the workers was carried out using the Body Mass Index and Percentage of Body Fat. The associated factors were determined by physical activity, tobacco consumption, time spent performing physical activity, consumption of alcoholic beverages, consumption of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and fat consumption. The study revealed that 72% of workers have a weight within normal ranges, 19% have a Body Mass Index > 25 kg/m2. Furthermore, we have that 72.2% of workers have an inadequate level of body fat. 41% of workers do not perform physical activity or are sedentary and a similar percentage performs physical activity of 30 to 60 minutes a day. 53% of workers consume alcoholic beverages, 92% do not consume fruits and vegetables, 78% do not consume dairy products and 92% of workers consume fats. There is a significant relationship between Body Mass Index and body fat percentage. Having inadequate body fat showed a significant association with body mass index. Thus, 100% of the population with BMI > 25 kg/m2 and 87.5% of workers with a Body Mass Index within normal ranges have an inadequate body fat percentage. Other variables such as physical activity, tobacco consumption, alcohol, fruits, vegetables, dairy products and fats did not have a significant association.

Critical review: effect of micronutrient supplementation and its influence on symptomatic complications in the patient with diabetic nephropathy
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-12-22) Castillo Lira, Betsy Julie; León Cáceres, Johanna del Carmen
Diabetic nephropathy is a disease that alters the microcirculation with functional and structural alterations, such as inflammatory and degenerative processes related to hyperglycemia, which are linked to aggravating factors. In diabetic patients, 20 to 40% have diabetic nephropathy, making it the leading cause of morbidity and mortality. This secondary research, titled 'Critical Review: Effect of Micronutrient Supplementation and Its Influence on Symptomatic Complications in Diabetic Nephropathy Patients,' aimed to identify the effect of micronutrient supplementation and its influence on symptomatic complications in diabetic nephropathy patients. The clinical question was: 'What are the effects of micronutrient supplementation and its influence on symptomatic complications in diabetic nephropathy patients?' The methodology used was Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE). Information was searched through Google Scholar, Scielo, PubMed, Redalic, and Scopus, finding 28 articles, with 14 selected and evaluated using the critical reading tool CASPE. The article titled 'Oral Magnesium Supplementation Improved Lipid Profile but Increased Insulin Resistance in Diabetic Nephropathy Patients: A Double-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial' was selected, which has an evidence level of AI and a strong recommendation grade. The critical commentary concluded that magnesium supplementation in diabetic nephropathy patients had an unfavorable effect on insulin sensitivity but also observed a favorable effect in reducing microalbuminuria. Based on the study findings, magnesium supplementation is recommended in diabetic nephropathy patients at a prolonged and adjusted dosage for future studies.
