Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of rapid-reading biological indicators compared to conventional biological indicators in the sterilization of biomedical materials(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-08-25) Begazo Valencia, Virginia Secundina; Machicao Olazabal, Fiorella Nataly; Matta Solis, Hernán HugoObjective: To establish the available evidence on the effectiveness of rapid-read biological indicators compared to conventional biological indicators in the sterilization of biomedical materials. Materials and Methods: This is a quantitative study with a systematic review design. The population and sample consisted of 5 articles found in different scientific databases such as Cochrane, Medline, Lilacs, Pubmed, Scielo, and Ebsco. Intensive evaluation of each article was conducted, and evidence quality and strength of recommendation were determined using the GRADE method. Results: 100% of the reviewed articles confirm that rapid-read biological indicators provide accurate results and increase the turnover rate of surgical instruments while shortening the long incubation time required by conventional indicators, which typically take 48 hours.
