Ítem Acceso abierto Prevalence and risk factors associated with physical and psychological violence in adolescent and adult pregnant women at Hospital San José, Callao - 2013(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-05) Osorio Yllaconza, Jhoanna Michell; Mucha León, Lady Giuliana; Arispe Alburqueque, Claudia MilagrosObjectives: To determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with physical and psychological violence in pregnant adolescents and adults attending Hospital San José in 2013. Materials and Methods: Causal explanatory cross-sectional study. The survey technique was used, and the instrument was the questionnaire developed by Blitchtein and Reyes (2012). The sample consisted of 140 pregnant women, of whom 70 were adolescents and 70 were adults. Results: The prevalence of violence among pregnant women was 52.9%. Pregnant adolescents with experiences of violence accounted for 41.9%, while adult pregnant women accounted for 58.1%. The risk factors most strongly associated were being a housewife (p > 0.032) and having a partner who controls and/or limits the woman’s work, studies, and visits to family or friends (p > 0.044). Other associated factors included a history of parental aggression (p > 0.0121) and the type of relationship with the partner (p > 0.0239). Conclusions: The prevalence of physical and psychological violence was higher among adult pregnant women. Risk factors include sociodemographic aspects, individual factors, and relationships with partners, which are linked to physical and psychological violence in both adolescent and adult pregnant women. These aspects require a collective effort to address them with professionalism and social responsibility.
