The objective of the study was to identify the relationship between dietary habits and the prevalence and factors of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in adults over 30 years old in the district of San Borja, 2023. Methods: The study followed a quantitative approach, basic type, non-experimental design, hypothetical-deductive method, descriptive-correlational scope, cross-sectional cut, and simple random probabilistic sampling. The sample consisted of 384 adults. Data were collected using a questionnaire through surveys, and the hypothesis was tested using Spearman’s Rho. Results: Of the 384 adults, 52.1% were female, and 48.4% were married. Regarding consumption of plant-based foods: 85.4% consumed pasta, 92.4% vegetables, 98% fruits, and 93.7% beans. Regarding consumption of animal-based foods: 75.7% consumed beef, 95.9% poultry, 78.1% milk or dairy products, and 75.2% fish. Regarding consumption of industrially processed foods: 83.8% consumed flour-based products, 41.4% processed meats, 39.3% soft drinks, and 51% fried foods. In terms of eating habits: 33% skipped breakfast, 38.5% drank coffee, and 33.6% were lactose intolerant.Regarding emotional factors: 41.7% reported feelings of sadness, 57.2% frustration, 48% difficulty concentrating, and 44.8% fatigue. Regarding pharmacological treatment: 35.4% used antidiarrheals, 27.1% antispasmodics, 13.6% antidepressants, and 72.2% analgesics. IBS symptoms included: 28.6% recurrent abdominal pain, 39.1% pain during defecation, 36.7% changes in stool frequency, and 38% changes in stool appearance. IBS prevalence was 32.3% in men and 19.8% in women. Conclusion: Dietary habits were related to the prevalence and factors of irritable bowel syndrome in adults over 30 years old in the district of San Borja, 2023, with a low positive correlation.
