    Effectiveness of chlorhexidine in protecting the oral cavity to prevent pneumonia in patients on mechanical ventilation

    A study was conducted on the effectiveness of chlorhexidine in protecting the oral cavity to prevent pneumonia in ventilated patients. The type of study is quantitative, the study design is a systematic review, the population was 19 articles and the sample was 10 scientific articles, published and indexed in scientific databases, the instrument was the search in the database from: PubMed, Scielo, Cochrane and Elsevier. For the evaluation of the articles, the GRADE method was used, which evaluated the quality of the evidence and the recommendation, the 10 articles selected 100%, under the systematic analysis come from different countries, such as: United States 30%, Japan 10%, United Kingdom 10%, Spain 20%, Belgium 10%, Turkey 10% and China 10%. In relation to the designs and types of studies, 60% (n=6/10) are a meta-analysis, 20% (n=2/10) are randomized controlled clinical trials, 10% (n=1/10) are a retrospective descriptive design and 10% (n=1/10) is a quasi-experimental design.
