Attitudes and knowledge about the use of periodontal probes in dental professionals in Arequipa, 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-02-09) Cueto Martinez, Arturo Alexander; Velasquez Velasquez, Roxana Pilar
This research was conducted with the objective of determining the relationship between attitudes and knowledge regarding the use of periodontal probes among dental professionals in Arequipa, 2022. The research method was hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach, correlational type, and cross-sectional level. The instruments used were two questionnaires with 30 and 10 questions, respectively, applied to a total of 351 licensed dentists who formed the research sample. The results revealed that 91.2% of the surveyed dentists had a good or very good level of knowledge about the use of periodontal probes in periodontal diagnosis, while 95.4% considered themselves to have a good attitude toward the use of this instrument. The research concluded that there is a moderate relationship between attitudes and knowledge regarding the use of periodontal probes among dental professionals in Arequipa, as evidenced by a Spearman's Rho value with a significance of 0.000, also showing a significant relationship according to age, gender, and years of professional experience.

Bacterial inhibitory effect of essential oil of Eucalyptus Globulus against standardized strain of Enterococcus Faecalis and Phorphyromonas Gingivalis in vitro study, Lima - 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-05) Girón Guayanay, Laura Paola; Velasquez Velasquez, Roxana Pilar
This research aimed to determine the antibacterial inhibitory effect of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil against standardized strains of Enterococcus faecalis and Porphyromonas gingivalis in an in vitro study, Lima - 2023. A quantitative methodology with an analytical focus was used, combining practical application and a prospective quasi-experimental design of a longitudinal nature. A sample size of 160 agar plates was employed, distributed into two main groups: 80 plates for the evaluation of Enterococcus faecalis strains and 80 for the evaluation of Porphyromonas gingivalis. These were further subdivided into four subgroups of 20 Petri plates each. Each subgroup was assigned a specific treatment, which included 20 plates with Eucalyptus globulus essential oil compounds at 50%, 20 with compounds at 75%, 20 with compounds at 100%, and 20 plates with physiological serum as a control. A specific evaluation form was used for the study, where the data generated during the laboratory activities were recorded. The results concluded that there were significant differences in the antibacterial inhibitory effect of Eucalyptus globulus essential oil against standardized strains of Enterococcus faecalis and Porphyromonas gingivalis (p <0.001).

Frequency of dental agenesis associated with sex in patients seen in a dental office private, Tacna, 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-07-22) Atencio Atencio, Ludgerio; Velasquez Velasquez, Roxana Pilar
The objective of this research was to determine the frequency of dental agenesis associated with sex in patients treated at a private dental office in Tacna, 2022. The research methodology was quantitative, basic type, relational level, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and retrospective design. The sample consisted of 109 medical records of patients over 18 years old of both sexes, where the findings were observed. A data collection sheet was also used to determine the study's objective. The results showed that the frequency of dental agenesis was significantly associated with sex, with a p-value of 0.000. Furthermore, it was determined that the frequency of dental agenesis was more prevalent in females, accounting for 6.42%. The study concluded that the frequency of dental agenesis showed a significant association with sex, with a higher frequency in females.

Influence of pigmenting beverages on the staining of aesthetic orthodontic elastomers: in vitro study, year 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-11-15) Alcandré Garcés, Stephie; Velasquez Velasquez, Roxana Pilar
The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of staining beverages on the discoloration of aesthetic orthodontic elastomers in an in vitro study in 2021. The methodological design was experimental and longitudinal. Materials and Methods: Two commercial brands of transparent aesthetic orthodontic elastomers, American Orthodontics and Morelli, were evaluated. The sample consisted of 80 elastomers, 40 per brand, divided into four groups of 10 samples for each staining beverage: Coca-Cola, coffee, and chicha, with 10 samples for the control group (distilled water). The color of each sample was individually measured using a spectrophotometer before being immersed in the substances. Measurements were repeated after 24 and 72 hours of immersion at 37°C, after washing the samples with distilled water and drying them with paper towels. The Lab* values were applied to the CIELab formula to calculate the total color alteration. Results: The chicha beverage showed the highest staining potential in both brands, followed by coffee. At 72 hours, greater color alteration was observed for all beverages. The Morelli brand exhibited greater color alteration compared to American Orthodontics. Conclusions: There is a significant difference in the influence of different staining beverages on the discoloration of aesthetic orthodontic elastomers (p<0.05), with chicha morada being the most pigmented, followed by coffee, and Coca-Cola having the least effect. Regarding exposure time, significant differences were found (p<0.05) in color alteration at 24 and 72 hours for both brands. Additionally, significant differences between brands were observed (p<0.05), with Morelli being more prone to discoloration.
