According to the "WHO," this disease is very common worldwide, affecting more than 280 million people. Over half of those affected do not receive treatment due to a lack of resources or misdiagnosis. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the antidepressant activity of the ethanolic extract of Manihot esculenta Cranz leaves ("cassava") in mice. Methodology: The study was experimental and quantitative. The leaves were collected in the district of La Merced, Province of Chanchamayo, Department of Junín. Secondary metabolites of the ethanolic extract were identified. The antidepressant activity (AAD) was evaluated using the forced swimming test in 30 albino mice at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg of the ethanolic extract administered orally, compared to fluoxetine at 20 mg/kg. Immobility time, swimming time, and climbing time were measured over 15 minutes. Results: The lowest average immobility time was observed in the group treated with the ethanolic extract at 200 mg/kg, with 13.5 seconds, while the control group showed a significantly higher immobility time of 104.2 seconds. The swimming time was highest in the group treated with 200 mg/kg of the ethanolic extract, averaging 177.5 seconds, as was the climbing time, averaging 49.0 seconds. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract at a concentration of 200 mg/kg has antidepressant activity comparable to fluoxetine.Publicación Acceso abierto Actividad antifúngica del extracto de propóleo frente a Candida albicans de pacientes con candidiasis vulvovaginal en el año 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-06-15) Rodríguez Loyola, Gina Andrea; Collanque Pinto, Jesús DanielThe general objective of this research was to evaluate the antifungal activity of propolis extract against Candida albicans from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis in 2021. The population consisted of C. albicans strains isolated from patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis admitted to the Gynecology Service of a Private Clinic in Lima. A total of 34 strains were chosen (17 C. albicans strains from acute cases and 8 from recurrent cases) and were treated with propolis extract and fluconazole, with three repetitions, resulting in 102 experimental units. The antifungal susceptibility test was performed using the disk diffusion method with a single concentration of propolis extract and fluconazole as the positive control. Results: The propolis extract, like fluconazole, inhibited all C. albicans strains. However, the effect of fluconazole was significantly greater than that of the research product. Conclusion: The propolis extract does show antifungal activity against C. albicans. The essential oils were obtained by steam distillation, and the area preference method was used to evaluate repellent activity. The repellent activity of the essential oils and the 50/50 v/v combination was evaluated on the Aedes aegypti Rockefeller strain at various concentrations (0.2%, 0.1%, 0.05%, 0.03%, and 0.01%). N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET) at 15% was used as a positive control, and acetone was used as a negative control. It was concluded that the essential oils of Syzygium aromaticum, Cinnamomum verum, and their combination do have in vitro repellent activity on Aedes aegypti. The minimum repellent concentration was 0.03%, and the repellency time was five (5) hours at concentrations of 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2%. Furthermore, the in vitro repellency level was found to be between class IV and V (using the Talukder and Howes rating) at the 0.05%, 0.1%, and 0.2% concentrations from the 1st to the 5th hour.Publicación Acceso abierto Adherencia a la terapia farmacológica y sus factores asociados en pacientes con tuberculosis del programa de TBC en un centro de salud de Lima Metropolitana, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-01-17) Palacin Custodio, Maritza Lucia; Ñañez del Pino, DanielCurrently, poor adherence to treatment for chronic diseases is a global problem of alarming magnitude.
