Ítem Acceso abierto (Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-02) Maytán Rojas, Emely Dioni; Chunga Diaz, Tito OrlandoThe main objective of this research was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance in secondary school students from a public educational institution in Andahuaylas, Peru, 2023. The methodology was quantitative, basic type, with a hypothetical-deductive method, correlational level, non-experimental design, and cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 152 students aged between 12 and 18 years, 80 male and 72 female. The instrument used was the BarOn Inventory to measure emotional intelligence, and documentary analysis was used for the academic performance variable. The results regarding the general hypothesis showed a considerable and significant positive correlation between the variables of study (r=0.537; p=0.000<0.01). Regarding the specific hypotheses, a correlation was also found in all the dimensions of emotional intelligence. In conclusion, the present study determined that emotional intelligence has a significant correlation with academic performance.Ítem Acceso abierto Comparison of grades between academic performance and the final exam for students of the X cycle of the School of Dentistry of Norbert Wiener Lima Private University, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-08-22) Ramos Blas, Carmen Rosa; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoIntroduction: Education in university students is important for achieving success, and this depends on academic performance, which involves evaluating the knowledge acquired during the academic cycle, including all areas or courses from the last year of the program. For this reason, the objective is to determine the comparison of grades between academic performance and the final exam in students from the X cycle of the School of Dentistry at the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, Lima 2021. Materials and Methods: This research uses a deductive-hypothetical method with a quantitative approach, as the data obtained during the research were analyzed, and a data collection sheet was used where the weighted averages and final exam grades were recorded.Ítem Restringido Emotional intelligence associated with academic performance in dental students at the private university Norbert Wiener 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-07) Huamán Vasquez, Geraldine Rosario; Araujo Farje, Jessica JazminEmotional intelligence is a necessary skill for any area of life, as it allows individuals to understand the emotional states of others, as well as comprehend and control emotional and behavioral responses. Different authors suggest that levels of emotional intelligence influence the mental health of students and that this balance can affect academic performance. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the association between emotional intelligence and academic performance in dental students at Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener – 2022. The study is descriptive, explanatory, cross-sectional, non-experimental, and correlational. The sample consisted of 233 students enrolled in the 2022-1 period in preclinical and clinical courses (V to X cycle) at the School of Dentistry, Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener – 2022. The results showed that the sociodemographic factors revealed a high percentage of 64.4% in females, and a high percentage of 57.9% in students aged 22 to 25. In terms of academic performance, 62.7% of students had regular performance. Regarding the emotional perception dimension and academic performance, there was an association (p=0.030). Regarding the emotional understanding dimension and academic performance, there was an association (p=0.025). Regarding the emotional regulation dimension and academic performance, there was an association (p=0.001). The Chi-square test (p<0.05) was used for analysis, with a value of P=0.048. The study concluded that there is an association between emotional intelligence and academic performance in dental students at Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener – 2022.Ítem Acceso abierto family environment and self-assessment of academic performance in dentistry students at norbert wiener private university in times of covid-19; 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-05) Alburqueque Altamirano, Elizabeth; Chanamé Marín, Ann RosemaryThe family environment is a space of family tuning that presupposes a degree of communication, living patterns, cohesion, and control conditioned to a family structure, based on the dimensions of the FES Scale by Moos, R. and Trickett (1985). The connection between the family environment and self-assessment of academic achievement was established for students from the Dentistry program at UPNW during the COVID-19 period. A quantitative model was used, and the research was applied through a descriptive design. The study had a correlational, cross-sectional design. An instrument to measure the family climate was applied, and the weighted average of students was obtained. The research sample consisted of 165 students selected through simple probabilistic sampling. According to the collected data, a low inverse statistical association (r = -.004) between the family environment and academic performance was found. However, its statistical significance has a value greater than 0.05, rejecting the hypothesis. It was concluded that the family environment is not associated with the academic performance conditions of Dentistry students at the Universidad Norbert Wiener in 2021.Ítem Acceso abierto Quality of life in relation to oral problems and academic performance of schoolchildren from 11 to 14 years of age in the province of Cañete - 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-12-06) Sánchez Candela, Arlet Carolina; Girano Castaños, Jorge AlbertoThe purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between oral problems, quality of life, and academic performance in schoolchildren aged 11 to 14 years in the province of Cañete - 2022. The research has a quantitative approach, deductive method, applied type, and observational design. The sample consisted of 126 students aged 11 to 14 years. Data collection was carried out using the Child Perception Questionnaire (CPQ 11-14) which has been validated in Spanish, dental records, and students' grade records. The results showed that 94.4% had dental caries, and regarding malocclusions, it was found that 89.7% of the 126 students needed orthodontic treatment, while only 7.9% had dental trauma lesions. The descriptive values of the CPQ 11-14 were 34.96±23.4. Regarding academic performance, 85.7% of students passed. The conclusion is that, despite a high incidence of caries and the need for orthodontic treatment, there is no significant association with quality of life. Furthermore, even though poor oral conditions are evident, they do not correlate with academic performance.Ítem Acceso abierto Self-concept and academic performance in students of the professional dentistry course at Norbet Wiener University in times of covid-19: 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-11) Chipana Garcia, Sulma Katia; Gómez Carrión, Christian EstebanThe purpose of the research was to determine the correlation between self-concept and academic performance among dental students at Universidad Norbert Wiener during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study follows a descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The sample consisted of 70 students selected using simple random sampling. To analyze the self-concept variable, the AF5 Scale by García and Musitu was applied, and academic performance was measured through the students' weighted average. The results show that there is no significant direct relationship (r = 0.184) between self-concept and academic performance among dental students at UPNW, thus rejecting the research hypothesis. However, a moderate correlation was found in academic self-concept (0.444) and family self-concept (0.414), confirming the importance of these variables in academic performance.
