Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of an educational program to improve self-care in elderly patients with ischemic stroke(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-11-17) Atencio Cóndor, Nidia; Gamarra Bustillos, CarlosTo systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of an educational program to improve self-care in older adult patients with ischemic stroke. Material and Methods: Systematic observational and retrospective quantitative review, subjected to critical selection, using the Grade evaluation system to identify the level of evidence, found in the following databases: PubMed, Scielo, Wiley Online Library, Elzevir, Cochrane. Of the 10 articles systematically reviewed, 50% (n= 5/10) are systematic reviews, 50% (n= 5/10) are randomized controlled trials. According to the results obtained from the systematic review carried out in the present study, they come from the countries of Australia, China, Poland, and Latin America. Results: Likewise, of the evidence found, 100% (n=10/10) indicate that the effectiveness of an educational program will improve self-care in older adult patients with ischemic stroke. Among the dimensions of quality of life, the physical component includes health conditions that limit physical activities (e.g., walking, bending) and the mental component includes aspects such as vitality, which refers to the perception of energy. Additionally, we define stroke as a disease of the brain caused by a disruption in cerebral circulation, with ischemic stroke occurring when a blood vessel blocks or obstructs an artery going to the brain, and hemorrhagic stroke occurring when a blood vessel ruptures within or around the brain
