(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-10-14) Arotinco Rojas, Karin Griselda; Delgado Cipriano, Clara María de los Angeles; Collantes Llacza, Adela Marlene
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression and anxiety account for 4.3% of the global burden of morbidity. The objective of this study was to determine the anxiolytic and antidepressant activity of the essential oil from the seeds of Foeniculum vulgare Mill., 'fennel,' in albino mice. Methodology: The methodology used was experimental, explanatory, quantitative, and applied. The seeds were collected in the province of Huarochirí (Matucana). The essential oil (EO) was extracted by hydrodistillation. The anxiolytic activity was evaluated using the marble burying method in 40 mice at oral doses of 2.5, 5, and 10 mL/kg of EO, compared to diazepam at 10 mg/kg. The antidepressant activity was evaluated using the forced swim test in 40 mice at oral doses of 2.5, 5, and 10 mL/kg of EO, compared to fluoxetine at 20 mg/kg. Results: The essential oil of Foeniculum vulgare showed antidepressant activity at the first two doses and anxiolytic activity at all three doses. Conclusion: The essential oil demonstrated antidepressant activity at doses of 2.5, 5, and 10 mL/kg and showed activity comparable to diazepam.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-06-05) Alvarado Lopez, Lesly Lizeth; Castro Bolaños, Cinthia Melissa; Chávez Flores, Juana Elvira
Ruta chalepensis L., "Ruda," is a plant widely distributed in the Mediterranean region and used in folk medicine as an antispasmodic, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, emmenagogue, and abortifacient. The plant species was collected in the Lima department, Lurín district, at 1224 m.a.s.l.. In this experimental study, the sedative and anxiolytic effect of the ethanolic extract from the leaves of Ruta chalepensis L., "Ruda," was confirmed in mice. A qualitative phytochemical profile was conducted. Subsequently, the study methods began: Sodium Pentobarbital-induced Sleep at different concentrations (100,250, and 500 mg/kg) and the Marble Burying Test at doses of 5,10, and 15 mg/kg. A total of 100 albino Balb/C53 strain mice of both sexes were used and distributed into five groups. It was confirmed that the most effective treatment in the Marble Burying Test was the ethanolic extract of Ruta chalepensis L., 'Ruda,' at 10 and 15 mg/kg, showing an effect superior to diazepam. Regarding the Sodium Pentobarbital-induced Sleep method, the comparison of the extracts versus diazepam indicates that the ethanolic extracts of Ruda at 250 and 500 mg/kg primarily have an effect similar to diazepam. Conclusion: The ethanolic extract from the leaves of Ruta chalepensis L., "Ruda," does possess sedative and anxiolytic activity.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-11-30) Ollero Ibaceta, Jacqueline Nancy; Santos Serquén, Lourdes Fabiola; Ramos Jaco, Antonio Guillermo
The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between anxiolytic consumption and the resulting dependence among residents of the Huaycán Human Settlement at an Inkafarma drugstore chain in 2021. Methodology: The study was correlational, using a deductive method, a quantitative approach, a basic type, and a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. A validated questionnaire was used on a sample of 200 people. Result: All surveyed individuals consumed anxiolytics. The associated pathologies were anxiety disorders (46.5%), insomnia (19%), stress (18%), and depression and muscle pain (4%). The most consumed anxiolytics were benzodiazepines, specifically clonazepam (49%), alprazolam (39%), and diazepam (5%). The level of knowledge about the drugs was regular (82.5%), with 9% having little knowledge and 8.5% having no knowledge. Conclusion: It was determined that anxiolytic consumption is associated with pathologies like anxiety disorders and insomnia, with clonazepam and alprazolam being the most consumed benzodiazepines. The resulting dependence has a significant relationship with anxiolytic consumption.

Macbr. “Sandillón” en ratones
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-07-09) Castañeda Campos, Elsa Rosario; Castañeda Campos, Willy German; Ramos Jaco, Antonio Guillermo
The sedative and anxiolytic effects of medicinal plants constitute a safe alternative for the treatment of diseases associated with depression. Objective: To demonstrate the sedative and anxiolytic effects of the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves of Solanum corneliomulleri J.F. Macbr. (“sandillón”) in mice. Methods: This was an experimental, prospective study. Secondary metabolites in the leaves were determined qualitatively. To demonstrate the sedative effect, the pentobarbital sodium-induced sleep method was employed, comparing extract doses of 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg. To demonstrate the anxiolytic effect, the hole-board method was used, comparing extract doses of 5, 10, and 15 mg/kg. Two groups of 40 male albino mice of the Balb/C53/CNPB strain were used: a negative control group receiving distilled water and a positive control group receiving diazepam at 10 mg/kg. Results: The 250 mg/kg extract dose produced the longest average sleep duration (2.8 hours), showing the greatest sedative effect. The 15 mg/kg dose produced the highest anxiolytic effect. Both effects were statistically significant, although slightly lower compared to the diazepam 10 mg/kg control group. The sedative effect of the hydroalcoholic extract at doses of 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg was 70.3%, 82.4%, and 81.6%, respectively, compared with diazepam 10 mg/kg. The anxiolytic effect at 10 mg/kg extract dose exceeded diazepam, showing an anxiety inhibition of 59.7%. The presence of alkaloids and other secondary metabolites was identified, which may be associated with the sedative and hypnotic effect. Conclusion: The hydroalcoholic extract of Solanum corneliomulleri leaves exhibits sedative and anxiolytic effects at doses of 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg, showing significant pharmacological activity, though slightly lower than diazepam. The presence of alkaloids and other metabolites suggests a possible mechanism for the observed effects.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-10-06) Flores Quispe, Norma Vicenta; Roque Gutierrez, Lucy Leandra; Collantes Llacza, Adela Marlene
Psychopathologies themselves are already a problem, the excessive use of antidepressants, anxiolytics and sedatives / hypnotics is even more serious, therefore the present work aimed to describe the patterns of use of anxiolytics and antidepressants in patients treated at the VidSalud pharmacy in the Ate Vitarte district in a sample attended during the period from October 2021 to April 2022. Method: For this, a data collection form was applied from the prescription and patient care in the pharmacy. It was found that the psychotropic drugs most used by patients are alprazolam 35.4% and clonazepam 32.6%, followed by sertraline 19.3%. The prescription doses are conservative and do not differ much between the patients surveyed. The specialty of the prescriber issuing the prescription exceeds the professional capacity to prescribe them with a full balance of their side effects and efficacy for the conditions treated. The duration of treatment with psychotropic drugs in the patients evaluated ranges from 1 week to 10 months. The class of psychotropic drugs used is equally balanced for anxiolytics and antidepressants. The psychopathologies associated with the prescription of psychotropic drugs are anxiety and depression in their clinical and subclinical forms, followed by insomnia. It is concluded that, given a scenario in which the use of psychotropic drugs for anxiety, depression, and other psychopathologies is increasing, and that given the possibility of side effects associated with the type of psychotropic drug and the duration of treatment, the abuse of prescribing outside the relevant medical specialty and patient abuse should be carefully reviewed.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-28) Euribe Ramos, Cristina Vanessa; Ramos Jaco, Antonio Guillermo
Currently, the increased consumption of psychotropic drugs is an issue that often goes unnoticed, as they are used to treat and alleviate mental health problems, leading in some cases to dependency or self-medication. This situation worsened during the pandemic as the population became increasingly anxious until the end of 2022. Objective: To address the rising consumption of anxiolytics and the anxiety crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: This was an observational basic study with a correlational-cross-sectional level, using a quantitative approach and a non-experimental design. A survey was conducted among the population of the Bocanegra Human Settlement, with a total of 150 voluntary participants. Results: The Spearman’s rho non-parametric test yielded 0.767, indicating an association between the variables of anxiolytic consumption and anxiety crises. The consumption rate of anxiolytics was calculated at 41.3%, while the anxiety crisis rate was 44%. Women showed a higher prevalence, with 51.3%, and the age group most affected was between 50-59 years, with 27.5%. This group reported that the most frequently consumed anxiolytics were benzodiazepines, particularly alprazolam (38.7%) and diazepam (31.3%). Conclusion: It was concluded that there is a direct proportional relationship between the two variables. The consumption of anxiolytics and anxiety crises increased significantly during the pandemic.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-06-09) Castro Conde, Sumiko Karina; Gutarra Chacon, Eva Mercedes; Ramos Jaco, Antonio Guillermo
