Ítem Acceso abierto Identification of ciliate and flagellate parasites in raw vegetables in the Chacra Colorada market of the Breña district – Lima 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-07-14) Amache Amache, Dalmecia; Astete Medrano, Delia JessicaIntroduction: Vegetables sold in our country generally lack any sanitary control, except for those distributed by supermarket chains. Generally, vegetables are bagged or packaged in almost any way, and contact with soil is almost inevitable, with no control over it. Therefore, we believe that vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, carrots, and tomatoes may harbor a significant parasitic load, potentially infectious. Objectives: General objective: To identify parasites in vegetables from the Chacra Colorada market in Breña. Secondary objectives: 1. Identify ciliates in vegetables from the Chacra Colorada market in Breña. 2. Identify flagellates in vegetables from the Chacra Colorada market in Breña. Results: 48 samples (vegetables from the Breña market) were taken. Of these, 30 (62.5%) were positive for the presence of human-pathogenic protists. The most frequent protists were Giardia lamblia and Endolimax nana. Lettuce was the most contaminated in our study. Conclusions: Giardia lamblia is the most abundant protist in the vegetable samples. Lettuce and spinach are the most contaminated. 62.5% of the samples were positive for human-pathogenic parasites.
