Kuntze ex Thell. “canchalagua” frente a Propionibacterium acnes(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-03-13) Purizaca Meléndez, Kevin Manuel Eduardo; Condori Antialon, Laura Isabel; Félix Véliz, Luis Miguel VisitaciónThe plant species Schkuhria pinnata (Lanm.) Kuntze ex Thell, “Canchalagua,” from the city of Ayacucho, was obtained at the Wholesale Market “La Parada,” district of La Victoria – Lima, and was subsequently taxonomically classified at the Natural History Museum of the Universidad de San Marcos. The sample was cleaned and dried at the Research Center of the Universidad Norbert Wiener, where the parts of the plant—stem, root, leaves, and flowers—were separated. Hydroalcoholic extracts of each part were prepared, and the phytoconstituents present were identified, such as flavonoids, reducing sugars, phenolic compounds, and carbohydrates. For the microbiological test, the Disk Diffusion method was used with blood agar medium and the Propionibacterium acnes strain (ATCC® 11827). Standard antibiotics Q.P.: Doxycycline, Levofloxacin, Azithromycin, and Penicillin were employed. Disks impregnated with 10 µL of the hydroalcoholic extracts were added and compared with the standard antibiotic disks on the plates, showing that the hydroalcoholic extract of the leaves presented the largest inhibition halo diameter.Publicación Acceso abierto Consumo de Bixa Orellana y su relación con la hipertrofia prostática benigna en pacientes que acuden a la Botica Palacios, en Moyobamba, San Martin 2025(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-09-10) Flores Estela, Oferlinda; Guevara Infante, Yessica Jhudy; Ñañez del Pino, DanielThe purpose of this study was to assess the consumption of Bixa orellana and benign prostatic disease among clients served at Botica Palacios, located in Moyobamba, San Martín, in 2025. The study was conducted cross-sectionally and correlationally, with a basic, quantitative approach that did not include experimentation. The sample, composed of 179 randomly selected individuals from a total of 335 men with BPH and over 40 years of age, was the community under study. For the research, a structured survey was used, consisting of two sections: one focused on sociodemographic data and consumption of the plant. The effects demonstrated a positive and statistically significant correlation between general consumption of Bixa orellana and BPH (rho = 0.690; p < 0.001). In addition, weak connections were found with specific dimensions such as the area used, the method of preparation, the duration and frequency of consumption, as well as the duration and severity of symptoms. It is concluded that, although the plant is frequently used in traditional practice, its consumption does not guarantee clear clinical benefits against BPH, making it necessary to continue with longitudinal research and clinical trials that evaluate its possible therapeutic effects.Publicación Acceso abierto Consumo de chenopodium ambrosioides (paico) y su relación con parasitosis intestinal en pobladores que acuden al mercado San Carlos, SJL-Lima 2025(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-11-18) Sánchez Moreyra, Lucy Ebilyn; Ñañez del Pino, DanielThe overall objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the consumption of “Chenopodium ambrosioides” (paico) and intestinal parasitosis in residents who visited the San Carlos market in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima, in 2025. The population consisted of 300 adult consumers of paico, from which a sample of 169 participants was obtained, calculated using the formula for finite populations.
