Objective: To determine the relationship between cardiovascular capacity and grip strength in adolescents. Materials and Methods: This is an applied, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational study. The population consists of 1,160 secondary school students of both sexes, with a sample of 289 students meeting inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Ruffier Dickson test will measure cardiovascular capacity, and the Camry dynamometer will measure grip strength. Data will be entered into SPSS version 23, with descriptive statistics to calculate percentages, frequency distributions, and central tendency measures, showing results in tables and graphs for each variable. Worldwide and in our country, the number of elderly people has tripled, leading health systems to be on alert to ensure this population can experience healthy aging. Older adults are vulnerable to cognitive decline and muscle weakness, which impacts their independence and quality of life. The prevalence of cognitive decline and muscle weakness is increasingly present in this population, making it essential to identify the onset of these symptoms to mitigate their effects and prevent them from interfering with daily activities. Cognitive function is an indicator of good physical and mental health and is closely linked to grip strength. Physical capacity is the skill of independence and autonomy not only for performing everyday activities but also for tasks requiring more physical effort and aerobic endurance. In this sense, functional physical capacity and muscle strength decline over the years due to current lifestyles and increased sedentary behavior. Physical inactivity today is a mortality factor, with 6% contributing to it, drawing serious attention to the reduction of functional physical capacity. Muscle strength is a powerful marker of present and future health in the general population; greater muscle mass is related to strength, higher functional capacity, and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and premature mortality. One way to measure physical capacity is through the distance covered and peripheral muscle strength in the upper limb via maximum grip strength executed with a dynamometer.Publicación Acceso abierto Fuerza muscular periférica y calidad de vida en pacientes del Centro de Rehabilitación RESPIRANDO2, Lima 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-12-10) Gomez Campos, Jesus Ivan; Chero Pisfil, Santos LucioLa pérdida de fuerza muscular es un gran indicador de las enfermedades cardiorrespiratorias la cual traen como consecuencia alteración en la calidad de vida, por lo consiguiente la presente investigación tuvo como objetivo: “Determinar la relación entre la fuerza muscular periférica y la calidad de vida en pacientes del Centro de Rehabilitación Respirando2, Lima 2024”, materiales y métodos: La muestra estuvo constituida por 91 pacientes con enfermedades respiratorias crónicas, siendo varones 68%, cuya edad fue 53.38 ± 8.83, estudio básico, nivel correlacional, transversal, con un enfoque cuantitativo y de diseño no experimental. Se utilizo 2 instrumentos, para la fuerza muscular periférica el dinamómetro y para la calidad de vida el cuestionario SF-12. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron una significancia de 0.002 entre ambas variables con una correlación de 0.515, además se evidencio que existe relación según su dimensión débil con una significancia de 0.002 y una correlación de -0.314, del mismo modo se encontró que existe relación según su dimensión normal con una significancia de 0.001 y una correlación de 0.334, así también se evidencio que no existe relación según su componente débil debido a una significancia de 0.914 y una correlación de 0.011, finalmente el 62.6% tiene una fuerza muscular periférica débil, el 35.2% tiene una fuerza normal y el 2.2% sobrante tiene una fuerza muscular periférica fuerte, por último se concluye que existe relación entre la fuerza muscular periférica y la calidad de vida en pacientes del Centro de Rehabilitación Respirando2.Ítem Acceso abierto Grip strength and functional capacity in older adults attending a physical therapy center in Surquillo, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-20) Koenig Villasis, Roberto Carlos; Bejarano Ambrosio, Miriam JuvitThe aim was to determine how grip strength relates to functional capacity in elderly patients attended to in a physical therapy center in Surquillo. This research uses a quantitative approach, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design with 91 participants, selected through census sampling, considering selection criteria. The grip strength variable was measured using the JAMAR dynamometer, and functional capacity was measured using the Barthel Index, both Gold Standard instruments. A sociodemographic data collection form was used. The research results showed that 65% of participants were female, and 52% were aged 70-99 years. 58% had normal strength levels, and 66% had independent functional capacity. The Spearman coefficient was 0.49, with a significance of less than 0.05, indicating a positive relationship between the variables. A study by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) determined that muscle injury is the most common, particularly in the posterior region, which is supported by the Australian Football League's finding that the hamstring muscle is more prone to injury than the quadriceps. Due to this, several authors have proposed a multifactorial origin, with strength and flexibility being key factors. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between hamstring flexibility and lower limb muscle strength in football players with knee injuries at a football academy. METHODOLOGY: A hypothetico-deductive, quantitative, applied research method with a non-experimental correlational design. Another pathology of modern times is the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. In February 2021, a study from Italy described oxygen desaturation as one of the main factors associated with this disease, along with dyspnea, fatigue, and exhaustion reported in 90% of the recorded cases in adult patients. Aging is also related, as previously mentioned, to desaturation and peripheral muscle strength (PMS), which are closely linked to frailty or associated disability, not only in the elderly but also in healthy young adults. This leads to physical limitations, which are the main factors contributing to the high morbidity and mortality worldwide, serving as clinical markers for each patient's hospitalization. It is a very common finding to see a drop in desaturation in these diseases induced by exercise or physical activity.
