Critical review: consumption of a high-fat diet as a dietary risk factor for colorectal cancer.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-12-07) Lamas Espinoza, Samantha Seribeth; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea Lisbet
Among the 36 types of cancer, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. It should be noted that it is a type of cancer that is associated with obesity and eating patterns, and that could be related to a high consumption of fat in the diet. For this, the principles of evidence-based nutrition were used as a methodology. Likewise, a systematic search was carried out in 5 databases, Scopus, WOS, Pubmed, Embase and Science Direct, from the last 5 years, which allow us to answer the research question related to the consumption of high-fat diets, and the risk of colorectal cancer in adults. After the selection of articles, they were evaluated through a critical reading tool to determine the degree of recommendation and level of evidence. It was found that less adherence to a healthy diet such as the Mediterranean diet, or a reduction in foods rich in fiber, as well as a low consumption of dairy products or dietary calcium, is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer, as is excess of alcohol and red meat.

Critical review: relationship of fusobacterium nucleatum in the development of colorectal cancer.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-06-04) Meléndez Barzola, Carlos Enrique; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea Lisbet
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of death worldwide, making it a public health issue due to its high incidence. This research, titled "Influence of intestinal dysbiosis on the development of colorectal cancer," was developed as a critical review. The objective was to evaluate the available scientific research through a critical reading using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASPE) tool on studies published about the influence of intestinal microbiome alterations (intestinal dysbiosis) in the development of colorectal cancer. The clinical question was: Does intestinal dysbiosis influence the development of colorectal cancer? The methodology used was Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE). The search for information was conducted in WEB OF SCIENCE, SCOPUS, EMBASE, PUBMED, SCIELO, DOAJ, SCIENCE DIRECT, ERIHPLUS, HINARIN, finding 114 articles, with 17 selected and evaluated using the CASPE tool. The systematic review titled "Fusobacterium nucleatum in the colorectum, and its association with cancer risk and survival: a systematic review and meta-analysis" was selected, with evidence level II and a strong recommendation grade, according to the researcher’s opinion. The critical commentary concludes that intestinal dysbiosis, especially the increase of Fusobacterium nucleatum, plays an important role in the development and prognosis of colorectal cancer. However, more clinical trials in humans are needed to establish Fusobacterium nucleatum as a causal factor or biomarker for development, which could generate low-cost diagnostic tools, as well as prophylactic and/or therapeutic measures.
