(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Enriquez Nuñez, Richar Gerardo; Quintana del Solar, Carmen Inocencia
According to the World Health Organization and the International Dental Federation, dental caries and gingivitis are the most prevalent oral health conditions among schoolchildren. Therefore, both pre-adolescents, adolescents, and young people must have an adequate level of knowledge about oral health. The objective of this research was to compare the level of knowledge about oral health and oral hygiene status before and after an educational intervention in children aged 8 to 13 years from the I.E. José Abelardo Quiñones - Ate, Lima, Peru, 2015. The sample consisted of 225 children aged between 8 and 13, who were given a questionnaire on oral health knowledge, and their oral hygiene index was recorded. The results showed that more than 80% of children had poor oral health knowledge, which improved to a good level after the educational intervention, with over 90% showing improvement. Also, over 70% of children presented poor knowledge based on their age group, which improved to a good level with more than 90% after the educational intervention. Regarding the Oral Hygiene Index (OHI), more than 80% of children had a poor OHI, which improved to a good level with over 90% after the educational intervention. When evaluating the children by age after the intervention, the oral hygiene index improved. It was concluded that the children initially had a poor Oral Hygiene Index and oral health knowledge, which improved to a good level following the educational intervention. It was also concluded that children with poor knowledge of oral health also had a poor Oral Hygiene Index, which changed to a good level after the educational interventions.

Association of artificial flavoring with the ph level of locally marketed water beverages in 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-10-21) Sánchez Linares, Maricielo; Guevara Sotomayor, Juan César
The maintenance of oral health is influenced by pH levels, which can vary due to the consumption of acidic foods and beverages. The main issue to analyze is how artificial flavoring is associated with pH levels in locally marketed flavored water drinks. This aspect can be analyzed in a laboratory to measure the levels and their differences based on the flavor, with the ultimate goal of understanding the potential effects caused by the consumption of flavored beverages on the oral cavity and determining whether they provide any benefit to our health. Methodology: The sample used consisted of 5 types of beverages, with 25 samples divided into 5 of lemon flavor, 5 of blackberry and strawberry flavor, 5 of apple flavor, 5 of pineapple flavor, and 5 without flavor. Results: Based on the interpretation, it was determined that the p-value was greater than 0.05, allowing us to accept the null hypothesis and conclude that the variables are independent. Conclusions: The beverages used in the study showed varying pH levels among lemon, blackberry and strawberry, apple, pineapple, and non-flavored drinks, with acidic levels found in the flavored drinks, unlike the non-flavored drink. For dentistry, this generates a beneficial preventive result for the population.

Beliefs in oral health and oral hygiene practices of caregivers of older adults in nursing homes, Chaclacayo, 2021.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-05-17) Santos Landeo, Magdalena; Vilchez Bellido, Dina
Older adults experience functional deterioration and a high prevalence of chronic diseases, increasing their need for care and elevating their level of dependence, requiring others to perform their daily basic activities, including taking care of their oral health. This responsibility is carried out in nursing homes by staff referred to as caregivers. If oral health care is not a priority for caregivers, it may influence poor oral care practices for the elderly under their care. The aim of this research was to relate oral health beliefs and oral hygiene practices among caregivers of older adults in nursing homes in Chaclacayo, 2021. An observational and relational study was conducted using a questionnaire that includes caregiver characteristics, oral hygiene practices with the elderly, and the Nursing Dental Coping Belief Scale (nDCBS), a Likert-type questionnaire to measure caregivers' oral health beliefs, in a sample of 47 caregivers from nursing homes. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed using Chi-square, Student's t-test, and the Wilcoxon test (p ≤ 0.05 as significant). The results indicate that there is no relationship between oral health beliefs and oral hygiene practices of caregivers of older adults (p=0.119); incorrect beliefs were evident among caregivers, however, oral hygiene practices were correct. It is concluded that there is no relationship between oral health beliefs and oral hygiene practices of caregivers of older adults in nursing homes in Chaclacayo.
