Materials and methods: A systematic, observational, and retrospective review of a quantitative nature, classifying 10 articles that meet the inclusion criteria. Results: 100% of the reviewed articles demonstrate a reduction in the duration of mechanical ventilation when weaning protocols are applied by respiratory therapists, nurses, or multidisciplinary teams. Conclusion: The application of mechanical ventilation weaning protocols significantly reduces the duration of mechanical ventilation for hospitalized patients in Intensive Care Units, also directly reducing complications and mortality.
