It is estimated that each year one million new diagnoses and half a million deaths are identified. It should be noted that it is a type of cancer that is associated with obesity and dietary patterns, including low consumption of dietary fiber. The objective of the present review was to know the effect of consuming whole grains on the prevention of colorectal cancer. The principles of evidence-based nutrition were used as a methodology. A systematic search was carried out in 5 databases, Scopus, WOS, Pubmed, Embase and Science Direct, from the last 5 years, to answer the research question related to the consumption of whole grains and the risk of colorectal cancer in adults. After the selection of articles, they were evaluated through a critical reading tool to determine the degree of recommendation and level of evidence. It was found that the consumption of whole grains is associated with a reduction in the risk of colorectal cancer in different percentages, depending on the intake, which is detailed in the critical comment.Ítem Acceso abierto Efficacy of the Mediterranean diet in reducing the risk of breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-12-27) Ramos Astucuri, Norma; Llapa Lescano, Lenny Nataly; Avila Vargas Machuca, Jeannette GiselleObjective: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet in reducing the risk of breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study has a systematic, observational and retrospective review design; of articles with full text, which identified their grade or quality of evidence according to the Grade System. The population was made up of 10 articles obtained from the following databases Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Dialnet, Scielo and Lilacs. 70% correspond to systematic reviews and 30% to randomized clinical trials, from the countries of the United States 30% (03/10), Spain 30% (03/10), Austria 20% (02/10), China 10% ( 01/10) and Italy 10% (01/10). Results: All the studies reviewed demonstrate that the Mediterranean diet is effective in reducing the risk of breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Conclusions: The Mediterranean diet, based on a balanced diet, very low in fats, sugars and salt; and rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains is effective in reducing the risk of breast cancer in premenopausal and postmenopausal women; In postmenopausal women its protective effect is higher.Ítem Acceso abierto Whole grain intake and colorectal cancer survival(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-28) Puma Castañeda, Medy Yohana; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetThis critical review is a secondary research entitled: "Whole grain consumption and colorectal cancer survival", which aims to discover the benefits of whole grain consumption for the survival of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer from the first stage. The clinical question was: What is the effect of whole grain consumption on the survival of adult patients suffering from colorectal cancer from the first stage? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. The information search was carried out in different databases such as Scopus, WOS, Science Direct, Pubmed, LILACS, Google scholar and Embase; Finding 165 articles, selecting 21 that have been evaluated by the critical reading tool CASPE, selecting the systematic review entitled "The Impact of Whole Grain Intake on Gastrointestinal Tumors: A Focus on Colorectal, Gastric, and Esophageal Cancers", which has a level of evidence AI and strong Grade of Recommendation, according to the researcher's experience. The critical commentary allowed to conclude that the consumption of whole grains favors to decrease the risk of colorectal cancer and improves the survival of patients with colorectal cancer, although in this last point it is suggested to carry out more research.
