Relación entre el bruxismo y desgaste incisal en atletas de alto rendimiento de powerlifting, Lima 2024

Abstract

El incremento global de la cultura deportiva, especialmente en disciplinas de fuerza como el powerlifting, ha puesto de manifiesto la presión ejercida sobre las estructuras dentarias durante estos entrenamientos. Ante esta premisa, el objetivo de esta investigación fue relacionar el bruxismo con el desgaste incisal en atletas de alto rendimiento de powerlifting. Se realizó un estudio con diseño correlacional, prospectivo y transversal, donde participaron 131 deportistas de powerlifting. A cada participante se le efectuó un examen clínico bucal para determinar su nivel de desgaste incisal y se aplicó una encuesta para evaluar el bruxismo. Los resultados revelaron que el 27% de los atletas presentaron desgaste tipo 2, y el 39.7% reportó bruxismo moderado, encontrando relación estadísticamente significativa entre el bruxismo y el desgaste incisal (p = 0.000). Adicionalmente, se identificó una relación entre el desgaste incisal, el bruxismo y el tiempo de entrenamiento y el género; pero con la categoría de peso, la relación se encontró únicamente en los grupos de peso ligero y peso medio. En conclusión, esta investigación demostró una relación estadísticamente significativa entre el desgaste incisal y el bruxismo en atletas de alto rendimiento de powerlifting.

The global increase in sports culture, especially in strength disciplines such as powerlifting, has highlighted the pressure exerted on the dental structures during these trainings. Given this premise, the objective of this research was to relate bruxism with incisal wear in high-performance powerlifting athletes. A study was carried out with a quantitative approach, with a correlational, observational, prospective and cross sectional design, in which 131 powerlifting athletes participated. Each participant underwent a clinical oral examination to determine their level of incisal wear and a survey was applied to assess of bruxism. The main results revealed that 27% of the athletes presented type 2 burnout, and 39.7% reported moderate bruxism. A statistically significant relationship was found between the self-perception of bruxism and incisal wear (p = 0.000). Additionally, a relationship was identified between incisal wear, bruxism and training time, as well as with gender. However, in terms of weight category, the relationship was found only in the light weight and medium weight groups. In conclusion, this research demonstrated a statistically significant relationship between incisal wear and bruxism in high-performance powerlifting athletes.
