Fuerza muscular periférica y riesgo de caídas en adultos mayores con Parkinson de un Hospital de Lima, 2025

Abstract

Objetivo: Establecer la relación entre la fuerza muscular periférica y el riesgo de caídas en adultos mayores con Parkinson de un Hospital de Lima, 2025. Metodología: El estudio adoptó un enfoque cuantitativo, sustentado en el método hipotético–deductivo. Se trató de una investigación de tipo básico, con un diseño no experimental, transversal y correlacional. La población estuvo compuesta por 110 adultos mayores, mientras que la muestra correspondió a 86 participantes. Como instrumentos se emplearon el test de Tinetti, con el fin de valorar el equilibrio, y el dinamómetro manual electrónico CAVORY EH101. Resultados: La investigación se realizó con 86 adultos mayores, con distribución equilibrada por sexo (51,2% mujeres y 48,8% hombres), predominando los casados (68,6%). La edad promedio fue de 72 años (DE=7,6). Los análisis de Spearman evidenciaron correlaciones positivas y significativas: entre la fuerza muscular periférica y el riesgo de caídas (r=0,510; p=0,004), el equilibrio (r=0,590; p=0,039) y la marcha (r=0,415; p=0,047). Estos resultados confirman que una menor fuerza muscular se asocia con mayor riesgo de caídas, menor equilibrio y limitaciones en la marcha en adultos mayores con Parkinson. Conclusión: Existe una relación estadísticamente significativa entre la fuerza muscular periférica y el riesgo de caídas en adultos mayores con Parkinson de un Hospital de Lima, 2025.

Objective: To determine the relationship between peripheral muscle strength and the risk of falls in older adults with Parkinson’s disease at a hospital in Lima, 2025. Methods: The study employed a quantitative approach, based on the hypothetical-deductive method. This was a basic research study with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The population consisted of 110 older adults, while the sample included 86 participants. The instruments used were the Tinetti test to assess balance and the CAVORY EH101 electronic manual dynamometer to measure peripheral muscle strength. Results: The research was conducted with 86 older adults, with a balanced distribution by sex (51.2% women and 48.8% men), predominantly married (68.6%). The average age was 72 years (SD = 7.6). Spearman's analyses showed significant positive correlations between peripheral muscle strength and the risk of falls (r=0.510; p=0.004), balance (r=0.590; p=0.039), and gait (r=0.415; p=0.047). These results confirm that lower muscle strength is associated with a higher risk of falls, poorer balance, and gait limitations in older adults with Parkinson's disease. Conclusion: There is a statistically significant relationship between peripheral muscle strength and the risk of falls in older adults with Parkinson's disease at a hospital in Lima, 2025.
