This research characterizes five medicinal plants (horsetail Equisetum giganteum L, dandelion Taraxacum fernandezianum, stinging nettle Urtica urens L, celery root Apium graveolens, and parsley Petroselinum crispum) sold at the Unicachi Market in Comas, Lima (2026), evaluating their use as therapeutic alternatives for kidney diseases and their implications for public health. Through organoleptic, macroscopic, and microbiological evaluations at the BLESS S.A.C. laboratory, distinctive features were identified: green-brown colors, herbal odors, fibrous-stinging textures; foliar structures such as sheaths in horsetail and pinnate veins in stinging nettle; and a total absence of eggs, larvae, mites, and adult insects. The Maki method revealed the absence of microorganisms in horsetail and stinging nettle; bacteria in dandelion and celery root; fungi in celery root and parsley; and no yeasts. The risks are low from macrocontaminants, but potentially dangerous (bacteria) to highly dangerous (fungi in celery root), which can be aggravated by indiscriminate self-treatment in Comas, consistent with precedents such as those at the National Institute of Health (INS) and De Souza. The identity and variable quality of the product were confirmed; horsetail is prioritized as safe. However, microbiological controls, education, and health surveillance are recommended for its rational use. This research is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for health and well-being.en_US
