| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Bacterial resistance constitutes a significant public health problem, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus, who have a higher susceptibility to urinary tract infections and clinical complications. In this context, understanding its behavior at the local level is essential to guide treatment. The aim of this study was to describe bacterial resistance in diabetic patients with urinary tract infections hospitalized in the Internal Medicine Service of Hospital Emergencias Grau during the period January–June 2024. A quantitative, descriptive study with a non experimental, observational, retrospective, and cross-sectional design was conducted. A non probabilistic convenience sampling method was used, based on inclusion criteria, although the sample size was estimated using a probabilistic formula as a reference. The sample consisted of 90 medical records. Likewise, the inductive–deductive logical method was applied for the analysis and interpretation of the results. The findings showed a predominance of older adults (72.2%) and females (67.8%), with a high frequency of poor glycemic control and associated complications. In the microbiological analysis, Escherichia coli was the most frequent microorganism (64.4%), followed by other gram-negative pathogens and polymicrobial cultures. Regarding bacterial resistance, a higher frequency was observed against quinolones (61.1%) and sulfonamides (55.6%), while resistance to carbapenems was minimal (1.1%). It is concluded that there is a high frequency of bacterial resistance in these patients, highlighting the need to strengthen microbiological surveillance and guide empirical treatment according to local resistance patterns. | en_US |
