The study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a eucalyptus mouthwash compared with placebo in controlling gingivitis related to hormonal changes among female students at an educational institution in 2026. A quantitative, applied, experimental, longitudinal, and prospective design with pretest and posttest measurements was used. The population consisted of 117 students aged 12 to 15 years, and the sample included 90 participants selected through nonprobability convenience sampling; afterward, they were randomly allocated into two groups of 45 students each. The experimental group used eucalyptus mouthwash, whereas the control group received placebo for 15 days. The Simplified Oral Hygiene Index, the Löe and Silness Gingival Index, and bleeding on probing were assessed. The results showed that 95.6% of the experimental group achieved overall clinical improvement, compared with 20.0% of the placebo group, with a statistically significant difference and a large effect size (χ² = 52.7; p < 0.001; Cramér’s V = 0.765). In addition, the experimental group showed greater reductions in the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (-1.043 vs. -0.341; p < 0.001), the Gingival Index (-0.907 vs. -0.408; p < 0.001), and bleeding on probing (-2.91 vs. 1.02; p < 0.001). It was concluded that eucalyptus mouthwash was more effective than placebo in improving oral hygiene, reducing gingival inflammation, and decreasing gingival bleeding among the students evaluated. Furthermore, 87.8% complied with the protocol, which supported the consistency of the findings. These findings support its use as a complementary measure alongside toothbrushing and professional oral health monitoring in adolescent populations.en_US
