Espacio aéreo faríngeo y deformidades dentofaciales en radiografías cefalométricas de pacientes que acuden a un Centro Radiológico, Lima - 2024

Abstract

El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre el espacio aéreo faríngeo (EAF) y las deformidades dentofaciales en pacientes que acudieron al centro radiológico SIDEMAX EIRL en Lima durante los años 2023 y 2024. La población estuvo compuesta por 200 radiografías cefalométricas, de las cuales se seleccionaron 132 mediante un muestreo probabilístico aleatorio simple. Estas imágenes fueron analizadas considerando las clases esqueléticas de los pacientes: Clase II (39.39%), Clase I (34.09%) y Clase III (26.52%). Aunque no se encontró una relación significativa entre el EAF y las deformidades dentofaciales (p > 0.05), se identificaron diferencias significativas (p < 0.001) en las dimensiones del EAF superior e inferior entre las distintas clases esqueléticas. En particular, se observó que la Clase II presentó las menores dimensiones promedio del EAF inferior, mientras que la Clase III registró los valores más altos en ambas dimensiones. Estas diferencias refuerzan la importancia de evaluar las características anatómicas específicas del EAF en cada clase esquelética. En conclusión, el estudio demostró que las dimensiones del EAF varían significativamente entre las clases esqueléticas, siendo la Clase II la más afectada por dimensiones reducidas.

The study aimed to determine the relationship between the pharyngeal airway space (PAS) and dentofacial deformities in patients who visited the SIDEMAX EIRL radiology center in Lima during the years 2023 and 2024. The population consisted of 200 cephalometric radiographs, of which 132 were selected through simple random probabilistic sampling. These images were analyzed considering the skeletal classes of the patients: Class II (39.39%), Class I (34.09%), and Class III (26.52%). Although no significant relationship was found between the EAF and dentofacial deformities (p > 0.05), significant differences (p < 0.001) were identified in the dimensions of the upper and lower EAF among the different skeletal classes. In particular, it was observed that Class II exhibited the smallest average dimensions of the lower EAF, while Class III recorded the highest values in both dimensions. These differences reinforce the importance of evaluating the specific anatomical characteristics of the EAF in each skeletal class. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that the dimensions of the ANB vary significantly between skeletal classes, with Class II being the most affected by reduced dimensions.
