Asociación entre la severidad y las secuelas post Covid-19 en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, 2020 -2024

Abstract

Introducción: La pandemia de COVID-19 ha dejado una huella significativa no solo por su impacto agudo, sino también por las secuelas a largo plazo en pacientes sobrevivientes. La identificación de estas secuelas y su asociación con la severidad de la enfermedad permite entender mejor el pronóstico y diseñar estrategias de seguimiento adecuadas. Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre la severidad y las secuelas post COVID-19 en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, 2020 -2024. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio observacional, retrospectivo incluyendo 1014 pacientes adultos diagnosticados con COVID-19 seleccionados por muestreo aleatorio simple. Se usaron historias clínicas, CIE-10 y fichas validadas para recolectar los datos. Resultados: Del total de 1014 pacientes, el 88.5% tuvo COVID-19 severo, 50.7% fueron mujeres y el promedio de edad fue de 33.2921.24 años. Solo el 5.9% presentó secuelas, todas ellas en pacientes con infección severa. Las secuelas más frecuentes fueron respiratorias (78.3%), principalmente enfermedades pulmonares intersticiales y asma no especificada. Las neuropsiquiátricas (18.3%) incluyeron hipoacusia, ansiedad y polineuropatía. Las dermatológicas (5%) fueron menos frecuentes, destacando la psoriasis. Las secuelas se asociaron con la severidad de la enfermedad (p=0.001). Conclusiones: Existe una asociación significativa entre la severidad del COVID-19 y la presencia de secuelas postinfección, especialmente respiratorias, en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, 2020 -2024. Los hallazgos resaltan la necesidad de seguimiento prolongado en pacientes con formas severas de la enfermedad.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has left a significant mark not only due to its acute impact but also because of the long-term sequelae in surviving patients. Identifying these sequelae and their association with disease severity helps to better understand prognosis and to design appropriate follow-up strategies. Objective: To determine the association between severity and post-COVID-19 sequelae in patients treated at the Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, 2020–2024. Methodology: An observational, retrospective study was conducted, including 1014 adult patients diagnosed with COVID-19 selected through simple random sampling. Medical records, ICD-10 codes, and validated data collection forms were used to gather the information. Results: Of the total 1,014 patients, 88.5% had severe COVID-19, 50.7% were female, and the mean age was 33.29 ± 21.24 years. Only 5.9% presented with sequelae, all of whom had suffered from severe infection. The most frequent sequelae were respiratory (78.3%), mainly interstitial lung diseases and unspecified asthma. Neuropsychiatric sequelae (18.3%) included hearing loss, anxiety, and polyneuropathy. Dermatological sequelae (5%) were less common, with psoriasis being the most notable. Sequelae were significantly associated with disease severity (p=0.001). Conclusions: There is a significant association between COVID-19 severity and the presence of post-infection sequelae, particularly respiratory, patients treated at the Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins, 2020–2024. These findings highlight the need for prolonged follow-up in patients who experienced severe forms of the disease.
