Sepsis is an exaggerated immune response to an infection caused by bacteria that proliferate in the bloodstream. The main objective of this research is to determine the correlation between white blood cell indices and procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in patients with sepsis to assess the performance of these biomarkers and their impact on mortality. A sample of 105 patients was taken: 56 women (53.33%) and 49 men (46.67%), with a mean age of 67.8 years. The variables were subjected to Pearson's correlation coefficient, and a significant correlation was found using Student's t-test. The predictive indices for mortality in patients with sepsis, neutrophil-to lymphocyte ratio and CRP-to-PCT ratio, were correlated to observe the relationship between them, and Pearson's correlation coefficient was also found. Based on the data, a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.048 was found, with a two-tailed significance of 0.630 > 0.05 for leukocytosis and PCT; a coefficient of 0.127 with a two tailed significance of 0.198 > 0.05 for leukocytosis and CRP; and a coefficient of 0.244 with a two-tailed significance of 0.012 < 0.05 for CRP and PCT. A Pearson correlation coefficient of -0.163 with a significance of 0.097 > 0.05 was observed for the neutrophil to-lymphocyte ratio in relation to the CRP/PCT ratio. It is concluded that there is a weak correlation between the study variables. However, when comparing leukocyte indices with biomarker indices, an inexact correlation is found because leukocytosis is not always present in sepsis, as this condition can vary depending on the presence or absence of immunosuppression.en_US
