Introduction: Superficial mycoses caused by dermatophyte fungi are one of the most frequent infections in clinical practice, mainly affecting skin, nails and hair. Its distribution is influenced by demographic, clinical and environmental factors, and its study is relevant to optimizing diagnosis and treatment in the clinical laboratory setting. Objective: To determine the association between the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients and the isolation of dermatophyte fungi in clinical samples processed in the SYNLAB laboratory during the year 2024. Methodology: A quantitative, applied, non-experimental, observational, correlational and cross-sectional study was carried out. The population consisted of 960 clinical samples processed for mycological study, working under a census approach. The data were obtained through documentary review of laboratory records. Descriptive analysis was performed using frequencies and percentages. For the inferential analysis, the Chi-square test of independence and Fisher's exact test were used, considering a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The frequency of dermatophyte isolation was 32.9%. The predominant genus was Trichophyton, with Trichophyton mentagrophytes (71.2%) standing out. No significant association was found between sex (p = 0.604) and age (p = 0.282) with the isolation of dermatophytes. However, a statistically significant association was evidenced with the type of sample (p = 0.000), with nail samples predominating. Conclusion: The isolation of dermatophyte fungi is mainly associated with clinical factors, especially the type of sample, while demographic variables do not show a significant association. These findings highlight the importance of the anatomical site in the diagnosis of superficial mycoses.en_US
