Posición del tercer molar inferior y las patologías asociadas en pacientes de17 a 28 años atendidos en un centro odontológico de Lima en el año 2024

Abstract

La investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar de qué manera la posición del tercer molar inferior influye en las patologías asociadas en pacientes de 17 a 28 años atendidos en un centro odontológico de Lima en el año 2024 y presenta un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo Básica, nivel descriptivo y un diseño observacional (no experimental), retrospectivo y transversal. Se analizaron 128 radiografías panorámicas y se empleó una ficha de recolección de datos. De la prueba de hipótesis se concluye que la posición del tercer molar inferior según Pell & Gregory no presenta una asociación significativa con las patologías asociadas. Cabe precisar que, se estudió esta asociación según sexo y grupos etarios no encontrándose asociación significativa en ninguno de los casos. En lo que a la posición del tercer molar inferior según Winter respecta, esta si presenta una asociación significativa con las patologías asociadas; relación que se mantuvo cuando se realizó el análisis por sexo y grupos etarios. La patología que presentó mayor frecuencia fue la pericoronaritis (65.85%) seguido de la caries en la cara distal del segundo molar (21.95%) y la caries coronal del tercer molar (12.20%). Se evidenció también que el 100% de las terceras molares inferiores con al menos una patología pertenecieron a la clase II; asimismo, el 68.42% se encontró en la posición A y el 31.58% en la posición B, En cuanto a la clasificación de Winter las posiciones que prevalecieron fueron la horizontal, mesioangular y vertical. Adicionalmente el mayor número de casos de terceros molares inferiores que presentaron patología se dieron en varones (52.63%); asimismo, el mayor número de patologías se presentó en jóvenes de 20 a 24 años (55.26%).

The objective of this study was to determine how the position of the lower third molar influences the associated pathologies in patients aged 17 through 28 which attended a dental center in Lima in the year 2024. A quantitative focus, descriptive type and observational design (no experimental), retrospective, and transversal. A total of 128 panoramic radiographs were analyzed and a data collection instrument was employed. The results obtained from the hypothesis show that the position of the lower third molar according to Pell & Gregory does not have a significant association with the associated pathologies. It should be noted that this association was studied according to sex and age groups, with no significant association found in any of the cases. As for the position of the lower third molar according to Winter, there is a significant association with associated pathologies; this association remained when the analysis was performed by sex and age groups. It should be noted that, from the analysis performed, the pathology identified most frequently was pericoronitis (65.85%), followed by caries on the distal surface of the second molar (21.95%) and coronal caries of the third molar (12.20%). It was also evident that 100% of the lower third molars that presented at least one pathology belonged to class II; likewise, 68.42% were found in position A and 31.58% in position B. Regarding Winter's classification, the prevailing positions were horizontal, mesioangular, and vertical. Additionally, the highest number of cases of lower third molars with pathology occurred in males (52.63%); likewise, the highest number of pathologies occurred in young people aged 20 to 24 years (55.26%).
