Asociación entre el uso de prótesis removible y la salud gingival autopercibida en pacientes de un centro odontológico en Lima, 2025

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la asociación entre el uso de prótesis removible y la salud gingival autopercibida en pacientes atendidos en un centro odontológico en Lima durante el año 2025. La investigación fue de enfoque cuantitativo, tipo básico, diseño no experimental, transversal y nivel relacional. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 101 pacientes usuarios de prótesis removible, seleccionados mediante muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. La variable independiente fue el tipo de prótesis removible (parcial o total), y la variable dependiente correspondió a la salud gingival autopercibida, evaluada mediante un cuestionario de ocho ítems con formato dicotómico (sí/no). Se aplicó la prueba estadística Chi cuadrado con un nivel de significancia del 5%, complementada con el coeficiente V de Cramer para evaluar la fuerza de asociación. Los resultados mostraron una asociación significativa entre el tipo de prótesis removible y la salud gingival autopercibida (p = 0.045; V = 0.247), evidenciándose que los usuarios de prótesis total removible presentaron mayor prevalencia de percepción gingival mala en comparación con los usuarios de prótesis parcial removible. Por otro lado, no se encontró asociación significativa entre la salud gingival autopercibida y el sexo (p = 0.396) ni con la edad (p = 0.052). Se concluye que el tipo de prótesis removible influye de manera significativa en la percepción de salud gingival, mientras que el sexo y la edad no representan factores asociados en la población estudiada.

The objective of this study was to determine the association between the use of removable dentures and self-perceived gingival health among patients attending a dental center in Lima in 2025. This research followed a quantitative approach and was classified as basic, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and relational. The sample consisted of 101 patients who were users of removable dentures, selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The independent variable was the type of removable denture (partial or complete), and the dependent variable was self-perceived gingival health, measured through an eight-item dichotomous questionnaire (yes/no). Data analysis included the Chi-square test with a 5% significance level, complemented by Cramer’s V to assess the strength of association. The results showed a significant association between the type of removable denture and self-perceived gingival health (p = 0.045; V = 0.247). Patients wearing complete removable dentures presented a higher prevalence of poor gingival self-perception compared to those using partial dentures. However, no significant associations were found between self-perceived gingival health and sex (p = 0.396) or age (p = 0.052). In conclusion, the type of removable denture significantly influences patients’ self-perceived gingival health, whereas sex and age do not appear to be associated factors in the study population.
