Uso de la Borago officinalis L. (borraja) como alternativa de tratamiento para las afecciones del sistema respiratorio en los pobladores de Maynay – Huanta – Perú-2023

Abstract

The present research was conducted with the objective of “Identifying the use of Borago officinalis L. (borage) as an alternative treatment for respiratory system conditions among the inhabitants of Maynay-Huanta-Peru-2023.” The methodology corresponds to a descriptive study, with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental design. The sample size consisted of 254 inhabitants. The data collection technique was a survey, applied through a questionnaire with 22 items, structured on a Likert-type scale. Results: Sociodemographic data showed that 50.4% of the inhabitants were male, and 30.3% were in the 26–35 age range, with 40.9% having completed secondary education. Regarding medicinal use, 52.8% reported using borage sometimes; for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic effects, 60.2% reported sometimes; for common cold, 54.3% reported sometimes; for asthma, 61.4% reported never; for bronchial infections, 55.1% reported sometimes. The most commonly used parts of the plant were leaves (28.3%) and stems (30.3%), with 31.5% reporting always preparing it as an infusion. Conclusion: Most inhabitants do not place significant importance on the use of borage as a medicinal plant to counteract respiratory disease symptoms, even though it is a natural remedy that may represent an alternative treatment to pharmacotherapeutic care.

El presente trabajo de investigación se desarrolló con el objetivo de “Identificar el uso del Borago officinalis L. (borraja) como alternativa de tratamiento para las afecciones del sistema respiratorio en los pobladores de Maynay-Huanta-Perú-2023”. La metodología, es un estudio descriptivo, con enfoque cuantitativo y diseño no experimental. El tamaño muestra es de 254 pobladores. La técnica realizada fue la recopilación de datos en una encuesta, aplicada por el instrumento que es un cuestionario con 22 ítems, estructurado con una escala de tipo Likert. Resultados: Se encontró en los datos sociodemográficos que el 50,4% de los pobladores corresponden al sexo masculino, además el 30,3 % están en el rango de 26-35 años, donde presentan un nivel secundario 40,9%. El 52,8% a veces, en cuanto al tratamiento antiinflamatorio, analgésico y antipirético el 60,2% indicaron a veces, en resfrió común el 54,3 % a veces, el 61,4% nunca utilizaron en asma, en infecciones bronquiales el 55,1% a veces lo utilizan, así mismo lo que más utilizan son las hojas el 28,3% y 30,3% los tallos, 31,5% siempre utilizan en infusión. En conclusión: La mayoría de los habitantes, no le da importancia al uso de la borraja como planta medicinal para contrarrestar los síntomas de las enfermedades respiratorias, siendo este un remedio natural que puede ser un tratamiento alternativo a la atención farmacoterapéutico.
