| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | Energy restriction is a nutritional intervention that has been associated with both weight loss and potential toxicity effects during chemotherapy treatment in adults with cancer; however, its clinical application remains controversial. This secondary research, conducted through a critical review entitled "Energy Restriction in Chemotherapy Treatment in Adults with Cancer," aimed to identify, evaluate, and synthesize the available scientific evidence to answer the research question and clarify existing knowledge in this field. The research question posed was: What is the effect of energy restriction on weight loss and toxicity in adults with cancer undergoing chemotherapy? The Evidence- Based Nutrition (EBN) method was applied to the study. The literature search was conducted in PubMed, MEDLINE, SciELO, Scopus, and ScienceDirect, initially yielding 18 articles, of which 10 were selected after evaluation using the CASPe critical appraisal tool. Finally, the randomized controlled trial entitled “Randomised controlled trial of intermittent vs continuous energy restriction during chemotherapy for early breast cancer” was chosen as the primary study. This trial has level AI evidence rating and a strong recommendation. Critical analysis determined that, although a trend toward weight loss and lower toxicity was observed in the intermittent energy restriction (IER) group, these differences were not statistically significant in the overall analysis. However, in the predefined secondary analyses, adjusted for body water, the results were more favorable for the IER group, showing statistically significant weight reductions and lower treatment toxicity compared to the continuous energy restriction (CER) group. | en_US |
