Factores socioconductuales del hogar y la caries dental de infancia temprana en niños de un centro materno infantil, Lima, 2026

Abstract

El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la asociación entre los factores socioconductuales del hogar y la caries dental de infancia temprana en niños de un Centro Materno Infantil, Lima, 2026. El estudio tuvo enfoque cuantitativo, método hipotético-deductivo, tipo básico, diseño no experimental, transversal y correlacional. La población estuvo conformada por 190 niños de 1 a 5 años, de los cuales se obtuvo una muestra de 127 niños junto con su respectivo padre, madre o cuidador principal. Para la recolección de datos se utilizó un cuestionario estructurado sobre factores socioconductuales del hogar y una ficha clínica basada en el sistema ICDAS II para evaluar la caries dental. Los resultados evidenciaron asociación significativa entre los factores socioconductuales generales y la caries dental de infancia temprana (p < 0,001; OR = 5,283). Asimismo, se halló asociación significativa con la exposición azucarada en el hogar (p < 0,001; OR = 7,108), la higiene oral asistida por el cuidador (p = 0,001; OR = 3,788) y el uso correcto de dentífrico fluorado (p = 0,033; OR = 2,267). Se concluye que los factores socioconductuales inadecuados del hogar se asocian con mayor presencia de caries dental de infancia temprana.

The objective of this research was to determine the association between socio-behavioral factors in the home and early childhood caries in children at a Maternal and Child Health Center in Lima, 2026. The study employed a quantitative approach, a hypothetical-deductive method, and a basic, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The population consisted of 190 children aged 1 to 5 years, from which a sample of 127 children was obtained along with their respective parent or primary caregiver. Data collection was carried out using a structured questionnaire on socio-behavioral factors in the home and a clinical record based on the ICDAS II system to assess dental caries. The results showed a significant association between general socio behavioral factors and early childhood caries (p < 0.001; OR = 5.283). A significant association was also found with sugar exposure at home (p < 0.001; OR = 7.108), caregiver-assisted oral hygiene (p = 0.001; OR = 3.788), and correct use of fluoridated toothpaste (p = 0.033; OR = 2.267). It is concluded that inadequate socio-behavioral factors in the home are associated with a higher incidence of early childhood caries.
