Asociación entre los parámetros de función pulmonar y síntomas de bisinosis en trabajadores de la industria textil del emporio de Gamarra, Lima 2025

Abstract

Introducción: La bisinosis es una enfermedad respiratoria causada por inhalar polvo de fibras vegetales en la industria textil. En Perú, pese al crecimiento del sector, hay pocos estudios sobre la función pulmonar en estos trabajadores, lo que limita la prevención. Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre los parámetros de función pulmonar y los síntomas de bisinosis en trabajadores de la industria textil del Emporio de Gamarra, Lima 2025. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio observacional incluyendo 171 trabajadores textiles sin reporte de enfermedades respiratorias previas. Se aplicó la escala de Schilling para clasificar síntomas de opresión torácica y se midieron parámetros espirométricos. Resultados: El promedio de FVC fue 80.7%17.8 (IC95%: 78.0–83.4), FEV₁ 86.0%17.7 (IC95%: 83.3 88.6) y PEF 92.8%19.9 (IC95%: 89.8–95.8). La relación FEV₁/FVC se mantuvo en 111.2%9.6 (IC95%: 109.8–112.6) y FEV₆ en 78.8%7.1 (IC95%: 76.3–81.4). Según Schilling, 61.4% no presentó síntomas, 26.9% manifestó opresión torácica lunes y cede y 11.7% síntomas persistentes. Se encontró correlación negativa débil pero significativa entre Schilling y FVC (p=0.0019), FEV₁ (p=0.0015) y FEV₆ (p=0.0022), sin asociación con FEV₁/FVC (p=0.8203). Conclusiones: Los trabajadores textiles presentan asociación entre los parámetros de función pulmonar y los síntomas de bisinosis en Emporio de Gamarra, Lima 2025.

Introduction: Byssinosis is a respiratory disease caused by inhaling vegetable fiber dust in the textile industry. In Peru, despite the sector's growth, there are few studies on lung function in these workers, which limits prevention efforts. Objective: To determine the association between pulmonary function parameters and byssinosis symptoms in textile industry workers in the Gamarra Emporium, Lima 2025. Methodology: An observational study was conducted including 171 textile workers with no reported history of respiratory disease. The Schilling scale was used to classify chest tightness symptoms, and spirometric parameters were measured. Results: The mean FVC was 80.7%17.8 (95%CI: 78.0–83.4), FEV₁ 86.0%17.7 (95%CI: 83.3–88.6), and PEF 92.8%19.9 (95%CI: 89.8–95.8). The FEV₁/FVC ratio remained at 111.2%9.6 (95%CI: 109.8–112.6) and FEV₆ at 78.8%7.1 (95%CI: 76.3–81.4). According to Schilling, 61.4% were asymptomatic, 26.9% reported chest tightness that resolved, and 11.7% had persistent symptoms. A weak but significant negative correlation was found between Schilling and FVC (p=0.0019), FEV₁ (p=0.0015) and FEV₆ (p=0.0022), with no association with FEV₁/FVC (p=0.8203). Conclusions: Textile workers present an association between pulmonary function parameters and byssinosis symptoms in textile industry workers in the Gamarra Emporium, Lima 2025.
