Factores asociados a la estomatitis subprótesis en pacientes atendidos en el Hospital Militar, durante el año 2024

Abstract

El presente estudio determinó los factores asociados a la estomatitis subprótesis en pacientes del Hospital Militar durante el año 2024. Dentro del esquema metodológico se recurrió al enfoque cuantitativo, no experimental y transversal, con un nivel de correlación. Se recolectaron datos de 80 pacientes mayores de 60 años con prótesis dentales removibles mediante un cuestionario y una evaluación clínica. El análisis de las variables se realizó utilizando la prueba Chi-cuadrado para determinar la significancia de la relación entre los factores asociados y la presencia de estomatitis subprótesis. El estudio reveló que la estomatitis subprótesis afectó al 28.8% de los pacientes del Hospital Militar, siendo el grado II el más común. Se identificaron varios factores asociados a la aparición de esta condición, como el tipo de prótesis, la duración de utilización, la frecuencia de higiene, el retiro nocturno de la prótesis y el ritmo de las visitas al odontólogo. Finalmente, la prevención de la estomatitis subprotésica debe ser multifactorial, y se destaca la importancia de implementar programas educativos para pacientes mayores de 60 años con prótesis removibles, con el fin de mejorar su conocimiento sobre el cuidado bucal y facilitar la detección temprana de la condición.

The present study determined the factors associated with subprosthetic stomatitis in patients at the Military Hospital during the year 2024. Within the methodological scheme, a quantitative, non-experimental and cross-sectional approach was used, with a level of correlation. Data were collected from 80 patients over 60 years of age with removable dental prostheses through a questionnaire and a clinical evaluation. The analysis of the variables was carried out using the Chi-square test to determine the significance of the relationship between the associated factors and the presence of subprosthetic stomatitis. The study revealed that subprosthetic stomatitis affected 28.8% of patients at the Military Hospital, with grade II being the most common. Several factors associated with the appearance of this condition were identified, such as the type of prosthesis, the duration of use, the frequency of hygiene, the nocturnal removal of the prosthesis and the rhythm of visits to the dentist. Finally, prevention of subprosthetic stomatitis must be multifactorial, and the importance of implementing educational programs for patients over 60 years of age with removable prostheses is highlighted, in order to improve their knowledge about oral care and facilitate early detection of the condition.
