Prevalencia del trastorno dismórfico corporal y el autoestima en estudiantes de secundaria del Colegio Hans Christian Oersted, Lima, 2024

Abstract

Introducción: El Trastorno Dismórfico Corporal (TDC) es un problema de salud mental caracterizado por una preocupación excesiva por defectos percibidos en la apariencia física, afectando particularmente a los adolescentes. Aunque existen estudios sobre el TDC, la falta de investigaciones en contextos escolares peruanos resalta la necesidad de explorar esta problemática y su asociación con la autoestima, una variable crítica para el bienestar emocional. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia del Trastorno Dismórfico Corporal (TDC) y el nivel de autoestima en estudiantes de secundaria del Colegio Hans Christian Oersted en Lima, 2024. Metodología: El método de investigación fue deductivo, con un enfoque cuantitativo, de tipo aplicada, diseño no experimental y nivel descriptivo. La población estuvo compuesta por 300 estudiantes, y la muestra final fue de 152 alumnos. Resultados: Se encontró que el 35.5% de los estudiantes presenta síntomas de Trastorno Dismórfico Corporal (TDC), mientras que el 64.5% no los presenta. Entre los estudiantes con síntomas de TDC, el 97.1% tiene autoestima baja, el 2.63% reporta autoestima media y el 0.66% presenta autoestima alta. Estos resultados muestran que la mayoría de los estudiantes con síntomas de TDC también presentan autoestima baja. Incluso entre los estudiantes sin síntomas de TDC, la mayoría también presenta autoestima baja, lo que indica que este problema está generalizado en la población estudiantil. Conclusiones: Se determinó que la alta prevalencia del TDC está acompañada de niveles bajos de autoestima, lo que podría afectar el bienestar emocional y social de los estudiantes.

Introduction: Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a mental health problem characterized by excessive concern about perceived defects in physical appearance, particularly affecting adolescents. Although there are studies on BDD, the lack of research in Peruvian school contexts highlights the need to explore this problem and its relationship with self esteem, a critical variable for emotional well-being. Objective: To determine the prevalence of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and the level of self-esteem in high school students at the Hans Christian Oersted School in Lima, 2024. Methodology: The research method was deductive, with a quantitative approach, applied type, non-experimental design and descriptive level. The population consisted of 300 students, and the final sample was 152 students. Results: It was found that 35.5% of students exhibit symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), while 64.5% do not. Among students with BDD symptoms, 97.1% have low self-esteem, 2.63% report average self-esteem, and 0.66% have high self-esteem. These results show that the majority of students with BDD symptoms also exhibit low self-esteem. Even among students without BDD symptoms, the majority also exhibit low self-esteem, indicating that this problem is widespread in the student population. Conclusion: It was determined that the high prevalence of TDC is accompanied by low levels of self-esteem, which could affect the emotional and social well-being of students.
