Abstract

La funcionalidad de las extremidades superiores en pacientes con Parkinson impacta directamente en su calidad de salud, limitando actividades diarias como vestirse, alimentarse y escribir. Entre el 50% y 80% de los pacientes experimentan dificultades motoras que afectan su autonomía y bienestar emocional, con un alto riesgo de depresión y ansiedad, lo que genera aislamiento social. En Estados Unidos, se estima que el 60% de los pacientes presentan dificultades significativas, mientras que, en Europa, alrededor del 75% de los afectados experimentan una disminución notable en su calidad de salud debido a la pérdida de funcionalidad de las extremidades. En Latinoamérica, la funcionalidad de las extremidades superiores en pacientes con enfermedad de Parkinson también afecta considerablemente su calidad de salud. En Colombia, por ejemplo, se ha documentado que el 50% de los pacientes experimentan limitaciones significativas en la movilidad de sus extremidades superiores, lo que afecta gravemente su autonomía en actividades diarias.
