Revisión crítica: efecto de la suplementación con cúrcuma en las secuelas del tratamiento de pacientes con cáncer

Abstract

La suplementación con cúrcuma se ha visto relacionado con el cáncer de forma beneficiosa, sea retrasando la proliferación de células cancerígenas o mitigando algunos efectos de la enfermedad. La presente revisión crítica tuvo como objetivo identificar la evidencia que permita responder una pregunta de investigación con la finalidad de esclarecer el vacío de conocimiento encontrado. La búsqueda de información se llevó a cabo en Scopus, Pubmed, ScieloyDialnet, identificandose un total de 25 artículos, dentro de los cuales 10 fueron analizados y evaluados con una herramienta de lectura crítica. Se eligió un metaanálisis titulado como “A Systematic Review and Meta Analysis on the Efficacy of Curcumin/ Turmeric for the Prevention and Ameli oration of Radiotherapy/ Radiochemo therapy Induced Oral Mucositis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients.” el cual posee un nivel de evidencia alto como A I y un grado de recomendación fuerte de acuerdo a la experiencia del investigador. El comentario crítico permitió concluir que hay un efecto positivo de suplementar con cúrcuma a los pacientes con cáncer, ya que reducen las secuelas del tratamiento, por ejemplo, la mucositis oral, beneficiando por completo al paciente.

Turmeric supplementation has been linked to beneficial effects on cancer, either by delaying the proliferation of cancer cells or by mitigating some of the effects of the disease. This critical review aimed to identify evidence that would allow us to answer a research question in order to clarify the knowledge gap found. The information search was carried out in Scopus, PubMed, Scielo, and Dialnet, identifying a total of 25 articles, of which 10 studies were selected and evaluated using the CASPE critical reading tool. Finally, a meta-analysis entitled "A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on the Efficacy of Curcumin/Turmeric for the Prevention and Treatment of Radiotherapy/Radiochemotherapy Induced Oral Mucositis in Head and Neck Cancer Patients" was selected. Based on the evaluation, the final article was categorized as of high level of evidence (AI) and a strong recommendation grade. The critical review concluded that turmeric supplementation has a positive effect on cancer patients, as it reduces the after-effects of treatment, such as oral mucositis, thereby benefiting the patient completely.
