Depresión y deterioro cognitivo en adultos mayores del centro de salud mental, Lima, 2025

Abstract

Introducción: En la actualidad, la depresión y el deterioro cognitivo en adultos mayores constituyen un problema de salud pública creciente, caracterizado por su alta prevalencia y por el impacto negativo que ejercen sobre la calidad de vida, la autonomía y la funcionalidad de este grupo etario. Diversos factores sociales, biológicos y emocionales, como el aislamiento, la pérdida de redes de apoyo y el envejecimiento natural, potencian la aparición y progresión de ambas condiciones, las cuales suelen coexistir y retroalimentarse. En este contexto, el estudio tendrá como objetivo establecer la relación entre la depresión y el deterioro cognitivo en pacientes adultos mayores atendidos en un Centro de Salud Mental de Lima en 2025. Metodología: Se aplicará el método hipotético-deductivo, bajo un enfoque cuantitativo, tipo de investigación aplicada y diseño no experimental, correlacional y transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 100 pacientes, evaluados mediante muestreo censal. La depresión se midió con la Escala Geriátrica de Depresión (GDS-15) y el deterioro cognitivo con la Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE-25). Los datos se recolectaron individualmente en un entorno seguro, respetando principios bioéticos. El análisis estadístico a través del SPSS permitirá identificar el grado de relación entre ambas variables.

Introduction: Currently, depression and cognitive impairment in older adults constitute a growing public health problem, characterized by its high prevalence and the negative impact it has on the quality of life, autonomy, and functionality of this age group. Various social, biological, and emotional factors, such as isolation, loss of support networks, and natural aging, potentiate the onset and progression of both conditions, which often coexist and feed off each other. In this context, the study will aim to establish the relationship between depression and cognitive impairment in older adult patients treated at a Mental Health Center in Lima in 2025. Methodology: The hypothetical-deductive method will be applied, under a quantitative approach, applied research type, and non-experimental, correlational, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 100 patients, evaluated through census sampling. Depression was measured with the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) and cognitive impairment with the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE-25). Data were collected individually in a secure environment, respecting bioethical principles. Statistical analysis using SPSS will allow us to identify the degree of relationship between both variables.
