Efectividad de dentífricos de sistema medicinal y convencional sobre la formación de placa y gingivitis

Abstract

El propósito del estudio fue evaluar la eficacia de la utilización de dentífricos basado en sistemas medicinales y convencionales sobre la formación de placa y gingivitis. El estudio tuvo un diseño cuasiexperimental, analítico, longitudinal y prospectivo. Se trabajo con 15 pacientes por grupo de 18 a 45 años de edad, divididos en Grupo A: Dentífrico a base de hierbas y Grupo B: Dentífrico convencional. Se utilizó una ficha de recolección en donde se utilizaron los índices IHOS y Loe Silness evaluados al inicio, 15, 30, 45 y 60 días. Para el grupo que utilizó dentífricos a base de hierbas, inicialmente el 86,7 % presentaban una higiene oral regular. Esta tendencia positiva continuó en los días 45 y 60, donde el 93,3 % de los pacientes logró una calificación de higiene buena. En relación a la gingivitis, al inicio se observó que el 93,3 % presentaban gingivitis severa, finalmente, en el día 45, el 26,7 % de los pacientes fue clasificado con gingivitis leve y el 73,3 % con gingivitis moderada. En relación al dentífrico convencional al inicio del estudio, el 73,3 % presentaba una higiene oral regular, mientras que el 26,7 % mostró una higiene mala. Esta tendencia positiva se consolidó en el día 45, donde el 86,7 % de los participantes fue clasificado con una higiene buena. En cuanto a la gingivitis, al inicio del estudio el 60 % presentaba gingivitis severa y el 40 % gingivitis moderada. Para los días 45 y 60, se mantuvo una tendencia positiva: el 73,3 % fue clasificado con gingivitis moderada y el 26,7 % con gingivitis leve. Se concluye que existe eficacia significativa en la utilización del dentífrico basado en un sistema medicinal y convencional en los niveles de gingivitis y formación de placa (p=0,000).

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of using dentifrices based on medicinal and conventional systems on plaque formation and gingivitis. The study had a quasi experimental, analytical, longitudinal, and prospective design. Fifteen patients were enrolled in each group, aged 18 to 45 years, divided into Group A: herbal dentifrice, and Group B: conventional dentifrice. A data collection form was used, using the IHOS and Loe Silness indices, assessed at baseline, 15, 30, 45, and 60 days. In the group that used herbal dentifrices, 86.7% initially had regular oral hygiene. This positive trend continued on days 45 and 60, with 93.3% achieving a good hygiene rating. Regarding gingivitis, 93.3% of patients were found to have severe gingivitis at baseline. Finally, on day 45, 26.7% of patients were classified as having mild gingivitis and 73.3% as having moderate gingivitis. Regarding the conventional toothpaste at baseline, 73.3% had fair oral hygiene, while 26.7% had poor hygiene. This positive trend was consolidated on day 45, when 86.7% of participants were classified as having good hygiene. Regarding gingivitis, at baseline, 60% had severe gingivitis and 40% had moderate gingivitis. On days 45 and 60, the positive trend continued: 73.3% were classified as having moderate gingivitis and 26.7% as having mild gingivitis. It is concluded that there is significant efficacy in the use of toothpaste based on a medicinal and conventional system in the levels of gingivitis and plaque formation (p=0.000).
